Here is my advice:
1) Don't be creepy. (Never use the work meatspace again unless you are writing a science fiction short story.)
2) Become confident and happy. I started martial arts training, lost a lot of weight, and became a happier and healthier person.
3) Don't be smelly or dirty and definitely brush your teeth regularly.
4) Try to be well rounded. Be able to talk about non-geeky things.
5) Go outside. Meet lots of people. Treat every social interaction as a learning experience and don't take rejection personally. Every date you go on is practice until the last one. I started dating online and just tried to meet as many different kinds of people as possible. Don't assume that you'll be most compatible with people with all the same interests as you. My wife is a social worker with very few geeky interests but we are great together.
