I'd like to see some DVDs for this that are jam-packed with emulators and scads of games. Maybe a "Best of Atari 2600" collection, etc. Of course, it'll never happen, especially with copyrights, licensing issues, and egos. But I can always dream (or have someone else make one).
Consumers don't HAVE to buy into it... but they will. They look for the largest spec list and most buzzwords for the dollar. If it's a quick, short-term investment, all the better, especially if it puts them ahead of their neighbors (or classmates).
Certainly not just for games... Silicon Graphics started work on IRIS GL in 1982 and, later, OpenGL in 1990. Mind you OpenGL is far from trivial to develop with, but it sure is portable--a molecular viewer made with OpenGL, for example, could very easily be ported from a Wintel PC to a Palm, or even an SGI 128-processor, 16-pipe Infinite Reality2!:)
New York may need the space once the weather warms up, bringing back the birds and insects. The West Nile breakout last year was pretty spooky.

As far as I know, Motorola has been using a 0.15 micron process for the PowerPC 7400 "G4". I'm guessing IBM will soon, as they're about to ramp up production of their own 7400s.8 6128,00.html
