Yep, I am the one who received the Jaguar dev hardware from John Carmack.
John, just wanted to say thanks again for providing the hardware -- it's certainly been put to good use (playtesting BattleSphere, developing my own games, and so on).:-)
I love computer visionaries... tired of the pesimism and the wrong headed thinking. Wrong, to not see the thousand ways the Internet *does* free all of us. Sure it requires "thinking" but thinking is like exercising, or cleaning a spot on the wall. Do a little, and keep going.
It is subjective. So is reality.
My viewpoint, is based in my experience.
I can't say, "stop flaming" "Quit with the angry reatoric"...
It won't stop you. Nor will saying, "Listen to your inner voice, be true to yourself"... help either.
But I would... and it will, and it is merely a chase of words, this matter of "Free will/choice".
But I will chouras the author, support Katz's direction and say, thank you. Thank you for vision, discusion, mind expansion.
True revolutions happen in unbelieved and unexpected ways... Like blowing bubbles in a Costco parking lot on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
What is a smile worth?

I know lots of geeks who have the really spiffy keyboards with the cool features. I am using a Pc concepts with touch pad (it can be disabled but once use to it, I have faired better than with vaious other mices.;-0 )
It is a raised board that arches I haven't used the high end ones but at $59.- I am quite happy and so are my wrists. I hope this helps. Phoenix
Yes on necesity but it shouldn't be too surprising given the number of "minds" that create most of the profound technologies aren't that many and they tend to be a bit scattered across the globe.
Being a psuedo-geek myself (haven't quite labotomized the right side completely) I hope this terrible trend in critterless covers doesn't coleus into anything more concrete. It gives rise to contemplative concern, to be concise.
I've read the replies to the Katz article until I'm dizzy in the head.. really. I don't understand people with so much to give intellectually, who have such gifted minds being such buttheads to one another. I constantly get warned that this is the way it is. I think you all are using the knowledge that flaming happens, as an excuse to keep flaming happen. You sit behind your desk (some of you) and because you aren't out physically exercising, by yourself or with a domestic partner, this becomes the means of expression of the whole psyche of an individual.
It's funny. But it is sad too...
I don't know what the resolution is. Anyone have any thoughts?
Because the tech people are helpful. Comp USA may give your money back but they won't help you make decisions about hardware and go over specs with you. the golden rule of Frys is : "Never make returns"... Here in Portland we buy a lot there and the geeks that work the floor are knowledgable.
Thank YOU! I agree whole heartedlly with your response. It's funny, I am recently seperated (soon to be divorced) from a geek (male) who is one of the most brilliant programmers I have ever run across. (Don't giggle, I've known *many* in 16 years of SF +F Fandom and playing poker with reclusive intellectuals (*giggles*). You gals/guys are the brightest on the planet. I'm not afraid to say that, partially because of two things. 1. you forget and then get cranky with the rest of us. 2. The rest of us are different, not stupid. What we want/need to find is simply on a different path. So, what do you do? Meaning people. I hang with intellectuals weekends, and farmers and country folk week days. We're all different. Chico Mendes couldn't read until he was a grown man with children. He learned... he fought. (South American Rainforests). So I didn't begin reading Linux until I was 34 and this man had to chase down his dog (still laughing on that one)
IT is all PROCESS....
(Putting my soapbox away and returning to "Running Linux";-)
A brief history of my time: 16 years with hardcore geeks, back to Purdue. Harvey Mudders too. I'm a beginner.. in coding. I should have began this trek years ago to speed my communication with the brilliant dudes like you. I liked the article. It expresses an admiration and respect for geeks, he's doing it his own way. I'm doing it mine... you're doing it yours... etc.. in a steady digression. He is articulate and I liked the dog slobber.
Life is simply programs written in chemical reactions. The interesting question her is (to me) what is the software and what is the hardware. At first I tried to say one was one and another... you get the gist. And then, "Hold on, wait a minute." Well, it is a subject we have been debating for three years and verges on a religion to the OTK, as a writer from the right side of things, (primarily) it leaves me curious.
Hummm... Iiam dies, well that's reassuring. At least we know one actor was in the film. Still, spoilers are not fun. I for one have only begun to accept the fact that you ruined the film for me. Stop here, doesn't work, as far as getting people not to read spoilers. Not on your site anyway. Two seconds into reading we have already scanned the whole page.

I look forward to watching this one unfold.
