I've seen medical manager running on what appeared to be Linux at my old university's healt center. They were doing appointments, record keeping and billing through it, from what I could tell.
There can be very significant material harm to a company caused by premature disclosure of product information. For example, Osborne had a very successful computer back in the early days of the PC. The company announced that it would come out with a faster version in the future, and its sales promptly tanked, because customers were waiting for the new machine. Osborne went out of business as a result. While Apple is very unlikely to go out of business as a result of product plan leaks, the leaks do hurt the company's ability to build suspense and interest in its upcoming products, and to focus customer attention on trade shows such as MacWorld, where many new product announcements are often grouped together. Furthermore, as evidenced by some of the postings on various Apple rumor sites, the details of prematurely announced products are often inaccurate and may alter customer expectations in ways which can hurt the company.
Robert, In a study that was announced a day or two ago, it was shown that the number of women who are pursuing degrees in computer science related fields is dropping substantially. I'm wondering what you think can be done to improve the appeal of careers in computer science to women, and how the domination of the field by males affects the cultures and product directions of the companies in the field.
My favorite device in the experiment is the DONUT detector. Although they claim to have used this to find Tau neutrinos, the REAL purpose of this detector is to identify and locate tasty toroidal snack and dessert foods for consumption by hungry physicists.
I don't believe that Steve Jobs would do this. One of the places that Apple's hardware has lagged behind the PC world for the past year or so is in graphics acceleration. Using a slower card would just hurt Apple's sales. Additionally, all of the carefully prepared advertising copy and press releases that Apple released yesterday would have to have been revised almost instantaneously, and the new systems would have to have been requalified with Rage 128 based cards instead of Radeons. Don't believe the story. It probably didn't happen.
In either Netscape or IE, hit control-left (in Windows) or alt-left (in Linux) or command-left (In MacOS) twice in rapid succession. That will force the browser to jump back two pages, past the offending (offensive) page.
I remember that when I watched the Transmeta unveiling, that they said that the 3200 (or 3150 as I believe it was called then) was a Linux optimized chip, and the 7000something was the Windows optimized chip. This uses a 3200. So, it sounds like it runs Linux.
Trust models which solve this problem

I'm a computer security researcher. This is sort of a variation on one of the problems that I have been researching for a long time. There are several trust models which have been proposed, which handle part or all of this problem in different ways. Some of them are: The Biba trust model (multilevel, single domain) The Bell-Lapadula trust model (multilevel, single domain) The PEM certificate hierarchy (hierarchical trust domains requiring trust of a top level authority) The PGP/X.509 certificate web of trust (transitive application of trust relationships, which is more like what you were talking about). The Solar Trust Model (user-centric multilevel interpretive model with dynamicly generated trust relationships) I would suggest reading the paper on The Solar Trust Model. It goes into great depth on these issues, and suggests possible solutions.

Scott, On most operatings systems, you probably have a guarantee that a certain set of libraries and services exist on every machine with that OS installed on it. On Linux, you (or Redhat or SUSE or whomever) can pick and choose which components should be installed or distributed. Does this cause problems for Loki's ability to produce games which will run on all (or nearly all) Linux machines? If so, how have you overcome this problem?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't patents only apply for 17 years after they are granted? 2000-1980 = 20 > 17.
