    I'm not sure if I want to be a programmer as my profession. I'd like to be a network administrator and develop GNU software in my spare time. That way, I can write code for the love of code and nothing else.

    I, for one, don't feel the burning desire to be "certified" in being a Linux Admin. I administer to the needs of my own little network here solely for the purpose of increasing the effeciency at which I develop the software I use.

    I'm not saying "DON'T CERTIFY, IT'S USELESS!" Because some companies don't want to go to the trouble of finding out whether or not you're qualified---they just want to see a piece of paper that implies that you might be. So if you admin for money, get it---it may help.

    Certification does not determine one's ability as much as it does one's commitment. I know pleanty of people who are technically able to be administrators in various fields but lack the determination to actually be a realiable employee.

    Still, I agree that certification should not be the deciding factor in choosing an applicant.

    Who cares what they're called? (Hackers, crackers, phreakers, pirates, BBS SysOps, unofficial politicians, Native Americans (Not Indians), etc.) It's what they do that defines them.

    After having just emerged from reading the entire constitution and a good handful of the amendments, I'm feeling a bit saturated with this legal stuff. . . .

    While I agree with your proposals, I have to question the reasonability of the last suggestion. . . .

    I agree that we should start our own information exchange community. I personally feel uneasy using anything that's put on a site with the .com extension---commercial organizations are bound to "buckle" under any preassure that jeapordizes their income. If we create an information exchange system based solely on the exchange of information and not created as a means of generating revenue, that community is less likely to be abolished when the question of money arises.

    In the mean time, I suggest we boycott Metallica (though their incentives are understandable, their actions are intollerable. . . as in, unforgivable? The Unforgiven? :> ) and Napster all together---this ice is just too thin for even a light skater to consider.

    A while back, a friend of mine asked me which system to get (this was before the 1gHz systems were out), and I told him to get the Athalon. Afer bizjapping about it for a while, he finally concluded that he wanted to get the Intel chip. . . . but he failed to see the point. We get anything but Pentium chips because we don't like intel. . . . . some humans don't understand the meaning of the word boycott.

    Something that you'll find prominent in the technology worlds is that simple is not always the emphasis. Sometimes, it's the cost efectiveness that matters most, or sometimes, it's just plain laziness on the developer's part. . . . Anyway, my personal opinion is that every piece of electronic information should be free (GNU or something like that) . . . but this world won't stand for that.
