  1. Visualize on How Do I Talk To 4th Graders About IT? · · Score: -1

When it comes to kids, visualization is very important.
Try to connect to their day to day life. What do kids use computers for? Get them involved by asking what they use on a computer that is connected to the internet and ask them how they think it works.
You could be pleasantly surprised by how much imagination they have. Intrigue them. The history of the internet might prove to be more interesting than how sendmail works or how to configure a kernel.
Explain them about the problems the internet is facing because we run out of IP addresses (you can use China as an example).
Talk to them about they stuff that matters to them. At one point or another, everyone gets introduced to an IP address.
How does the internet translate URLs to IP addresses when they visit their favorite website.
Oh, and bring Tux along. Kids like penguins better than butterflies in unnatural colours.
Don't ask them why VI is better than Emacs though. They might start to get physical as of a lack of arguments to defend Emacs.

The feeling is mutual. And yes, I've said stupid things too, but not in front of the whole world, being the president of the strongest country. And I don't think you need to call me a stupid asshole since all I ever did was post on /. If you are that frustrated, go shit on someone else! I guess you only know the 4 walls of your room. I've seen a big part of the world, I've seen what guys like Bush can do!! So shut the hell up.

well, let me just say that Bush is an stupid asshole in every way! You don't say "It's time for the human race to enter the solar system" if we LIVE in it! If George will have his defense shield, he can nuke all the US "enemies" (mostly countries that don't allow the terror the US government brings) without the fear of being nuked himself! So yes, one can say that I don't like his face nor the way he acts. I think he is _the_ most stupid president ever.

I have to say that the idea is good. In the college I went to, even new pc's (all running wintndo) had to be reinstalled every couple of weeks (of course you can blame part of that on M$). In educational systems, in Belgium, every computer has to run M$ Wintendo. That is because one of our ministers made a deal with beloved Bill Gates (remember the pie in his face)! If you give the students laptops, they are responsible for there own system (and some WILL make it dual boot ;). Only thing is, it is up to the school to take care of the deal between the comany that makes the laptops and students. Not all of us have the money to buy a laptop.
