The ST reboot really divided fans. I skipped boy scouts to see The Man Trap when it first aired, consider myself a fan of TOS, less so of the ones that came after, (when they transitioned from action-with-a-dose-of-philosophy to Endless Meetings) and I really enjoyed the reboot. Just sayin'. I even enjoyed Into Darkness.
I like "classic" Trek because it is actually optimistic and tries to make you think; the plot isn't about the Federation betraying some guy who then goes back in time and starts blowing up entire planets full of civilians while Chris Pine gets to smirk around the bridge of the Enterprise which has been conveniently given to him.
But regardless of what one thinks of Abrams, he wasn't responsible for the midichlorian silliness. Lucas had crapped thrice (some would say three-and-a-half times, to include certain aspects of RotJ) on Star Wars long before Abrams got his mitts on the property.
Yeah, no argument there. But I know better than to say, "how could they possibly do it worse" because as soon as I say that and go see it, there's a strong chance I'll find out.
60 years later, another group of physicists discovered that this so-called Goos-Hanchen effect could sometimes be negative so the point of reflection would back towards the source rather than away from it.
Don't the editors even read the freaking summary through once?! I don't know about you, but the most glaring error I usually notice is when I accidentally the sentence through and there's no verb.
(and I thought starting a sentence with a numeral was also one of those things you're not supposed to do)
I would be highly tempted to ask a question in the middle of the presentation if I knew in advance the presenter was doing something douchey like this, to throw off their time.
It makes me nauseous all the ways our politicians skullfuck the spirit of democracy these days.
Obviously when people won't vote for us, it must be their problem--it couldn't possibly be that we are doing anything wrong! Figure out a way to prevent those idiots from voting!
So you are saying that your family places no pressure on you to vote like them? I've never known a family like that.
Now you have. They know my political opinions, and I know theirs. We disagree on several issues most U.S. citizens would consider "core," and I would not say I feel "pressured."
I'm confused as to how the 2 parts of your post aren't somewhat contradictory.
You register to vote but unless you vote absentee, they can't tie your ballot to you, right? (and I would think that's just through the ballot envelope, not the ballot itself) Isn't that the whole point of a secret ballot: if they can't tie you to your ballot, they can't punish you for voting for a certain candidate.
Accountability is a moot point as long as they properly check the packaging, then put it in the ballot box, then don't let anybody fuck around with the ballot boxes. There should be no reason to care WHO you voted for, just that you DID vote.
If by "consistent in your position" you mean "given to reductio ad absurdum" then sure.
I don't think anybody will agree that it's self-defense to use a nuke to defend one person, because the collateral damage unless you're in the middle of Bumfuck Nowhere is hideously, exponentially higher than anything you're hoping to accomplish. In the same way, I could take the other side of that argument and argue that you're saying that if anybody tells you to give them your wallet, you take them down to your bank, withdraw your life savings to give to them, and then go door-to-door to help them rustle up further income. Because we can't possibly fight them!
Or if you get criticized at work, then obviously the only course of action is to quit on the spot because it's inevitable you'd get fired anyway.
Or if somebody honks at you in traffic, you should obviously go down to the DMV and hand in your driver's license again. Because obviously you don't know how to drive and are just a danger to everyone else.
P.S: A nuke maybe be an armament but it is certainly not an arm in the vernacular of the Founding Fathers' day. I kind of doubt they considered a fully crewed man o' war an "arm" either.
In fact the Daily show went out with a camera crew during the Sochi games trying to find the alleged persecuted gay people (in both Sochi and Moscow) and could not find any.
Yeah, that doesn't sound stunt-y at all. Because obviously they're going to be walking down the street wearing T-shirts saying "I am an oppressed gay person" in English, right? Especially during the Olympics when the host country has no investment whatsoever in maintaining a clean-cut image.
I'll concede your point if you can name 3 reboots in the history of TV that have been of equal quality (not even better than) the originals.
Good thing I was addressing you specifically, then.

Oh. I thought they mostly worshiped the live Kim.
So depending on your definition of "children" (18?), that would probably do little to solve the actual problem at hand.
I wasn't interested in seeing J.J. Abrams skullfuck Star Trek; if you think I'm going to watch him do it to Star Wars as well, you're sorely mistaken.
Not even mentioning the name. After midi-chlorians...the Force is already awake...just no.
Then we'd get a story about the CIA, instead of merely the FBI.
Except for that article yesterday (?) about how the FBI wants authority to fuck with people outside the country now, too.

And Apple has to do with North Korea because...?
Fairly positive it's actually illegal to own Apple products in NK.

Steve Jobs 2G
*insert joke about "holding it wrong"*
Didn't you get the memo? The ego of Zombie Steve Jobs *is* all That Matters.

You don't see the irony in making your sig a link to the Dunning-Kruger effect and then starting your post with "Just use..."?

I never said I was on the side of Kiev, mister, I'm just NOT on the side of Russia.
New studies suggest that terrorists breathe air.
Ban air!
The key word in your rebuttals being "WAS."
Crimea voted with almost 90% margin to annex to Russia.
...in an election the other side boycotted.
*headdesks*

Last I heard TPB didn't have a faction of violent religious extremists backing them.
(Saying that people who don't run adblock deserve the shit they get is victim blaming, so don't be an asshole)
Because every site that helps you download stuff for free illegally should be squeaky clean, sure. Why would criminals ever be dishonest?
