Alright, to be fair, he did mention Browne today. But he then went on to say that the only good story submissions he gets are about Gore and Nader, which I find very hard to believe.

The point is, Rob's politics are going to influence his idea of what a 'good' story submission is.

And the bigger point is that (IMO) Slashdot isn't the place to discuss presidential politics.

I have to agree with Katz here. (That's probably a first.) "Journalistic ethics" have always been bullshit.

And when have "paper mediums" been held responsible for "tabloid news stories". I don't recall that happening too often.

Did you even look at the site I linked to? While I don't exactly agree with everything on the site, I do agree with the gist of it.

That is; our system of government is not moral; by voting, we are participating in and endorsing the system; we should not vote.

At least read the site before you reply to me again.

even if he is a troll.

/.'s editors keep saying that they are only getting submissions for Gore and Nader. Not likely true! They just don't want to let the people hear any message that doesn't fit their world view, namely some form of socialism.
This is very true. I don't know if Taco is actually a socialist, but he is definitely a leftist. I assume his idea of 'good story submission' is one that supports Gore or Nader.

He has already shown a bias towards Gore in his story intros; why wouldn't he show a bias in story selection?

I personally think the presidential election has no place being covered on Slashdot. If you want to talk politics, go to a politics forum.

Rob is only covering the election so he can try his hand at influencing the little people, just like all other major media outlets. What used to seperate Slashdot from other news sources was a lack of bullshit (of the political variety, anyhow). But now, we can't go two days without being exposed to Rob's political views. When is this going to stop?

This is so far beyond anything you could train an AI to do within three years that it's not even funny.

I don't agree with you there.

While I don't have any links handy, there have been computers capable of driving cars in controlled environments for decades. Relatively recently, I have even seen demonstrated (on tv) a computer controlled car navigating through traffic (there was of course a human driver ready to take over in case of any mishaps).

So, computers operating cars, especially in controlled environments, isn't that big of deal. There are teams today, I'm sure, capable of hooking up a computer to an F1 car and making it drive around a track. No big deal.

I don't think anyone has had a computer drive a car hundreds of MPH. But I don't think there is that much of a difference between having a computer drive a car at 20 MPH or 200 MPH, as long as you have fast enough processors.

  7. Cloning Human Cells != Human Cloning on Patents Filed on Human Cloning · · Score: 2

The article is about a process in which human cells are cloned to create a source of stem cells, which in turn may be used to research the cloning of human tissues and organs. The patent has little to do with "human cloning" as most people think of it.

  8. Is This a Surprise? on SDMI Cracked Too Soon · · Score: 3
Show me a copy-protection scheme that hasn't been broken, and I might be suprised.

What is the RIAA thinking? All moderately popular music is available in MP3 format; and those MP3s aren't going to suddenly all disappear. My understanding is that SDMI was supposed to allow record companies to sell music via download. Why not simply sell music in MP3 format, and forego copy-protection?

People who want to trade music will continue to do so even if the RIAA somehow manages (magically) comes up with unbreakable copy-protection. People will always be able to rip CDs. SDMI and similar efforts are pointless, and a waste of money.

  10. Falsify your information on TiVo Changing Privacy Policy? · · Score: 2
NEVER give your real name and info to your ISP, or TIVO, or any other company you do business with if you can manage it. It is extremely simple to falsify your information, and no on will know or care. Then you can quit worrying about their shitty privacy policies.

That doesn't mean I like companies with lax privacy policies (I think Tivo should be boycotted), but you have to take responsibilty for maintaining your own privacy.
