Oh yes and that can be easily done with all those funds coming from Indias income from exports of incandescent and flourescent light bulbs. Oh, what? LED you say?... hmm, looks like India needs something else. What do all the successfull countries make their money off of? Oh yes, technology! What's a good program to develop a lot of technology and get a lot of international attention? Space!
India does need a national program to end poverty, but they also need a national program that will secure the funds to do so. I sincerely hope that this will be one of those programs, and anxiously await the residual technologies that could improve space travel and human life across the world.
While you are correct you must also realize that rockets and outer space are big business and the scientific knowledge and engineering developments that come out of engineering and re-engineering the technology are very very valuable things. If they can get a mars probe up successfully at that price point they'll be securing a place for themselves in space business and technology for the next 20 years.
And from another angle you must realize rural India isn't going to get modernized without massive financial stiumuls - and yet the only things that India currently makes money off of don't have great future prospects. Hopefully this will be a good economic stimulus and technological boon for them.
India is actually one place tablet computers have persisted to be popular (and way before the iPad too), this one just got attention because of what it was and what its mission was at the time. And it is a dissapointment that it failed, but getting tablets at sub $50 price points in India is easy. If you want some yourself you can find them on alibaba.com, but don't count on finding many that are actually -made- in India.
Wow, that totally changes the context here and completely validates the ICO action. Had I known this I would not have made the above comment. Does anyone have any links with details?
First hit on Google and at first glance other than the highly topical ICO-Google issue here it's all abuses of privacy by the government: http://www.bigbrotherwatch.org.uk/ . But really, to say the UK has a government that abuses the rights to privacy of its citizens is like saying "scissors cuts paper". That you don't know it either means you are in denial or have only just now started reading news. Why there's even plenty of articles right here: http://slashdot.org/index2.pl?fhfilter=british+privacy .
Well I'm glad I don't live in the US either. Where I live we DO have cameras everywhere but they are mostly private security cameras. In order to get the video from the cameras the police need to have a valid reason and need to make a formal request to the manager of the cameras (and since they usually have a valid reason they are rarely turned down). So if I were to commit a crime and the police were already after me getting a video of me would be trivial, but at the same time they don't just have free access to cameras everywhere. It's that difference that makes me glad I don't live in the US, UK, etc.
Google is being fined for collecting "public" data... in the UK. The same UK that has cameras everywhere and all sorts of invasive monitoring, line tapping, you-name-it big-brother we're-watching-you technlogy and laws in place?
I think this ICO organization needs to get their priorities straight.
Personally [I said personally so it's an opinion, damnit] I hate Java. I've been doing Android development for quite a while now and not a day goes by I don't wish Google would enhance the NDK to a practically usable level so I could code in C++. I've even gone out of my way to code some things in Ruby and Scala, but the implemetations just can't match native code and can't make use of enough of the tools for the platform to be "practical". I would have taken a full ObjectiveC port for Android any day over a set of Java porting tools for iOS.
Also James Gosling is a disgusting, narcissistic lying jerk. He goes out of his way to tear up other languages but he patently does so by just making things up. Compare to other language fathers like Stroustrup, who's generally humble and constantly picking apart what could be done better in C++; and Matz who goes out of his way to study other languages, see what's great in them, and see if he can implement those features in Ruby, all the while doing so without trying to defame them. I've also found communities around langauges to have similiar traits as their creators.
I think you missed the "up to" before "100W". This is also at 5V, and I have a powered USB hub that puts out 4A (distributed across all 5 ports...) (more than the standard) that I use to charge a bank of Android terminals.
And I'd bet you are absolutely correct about the handshake being an attack vector. Maybe skip on the cheap Chinese USB 3.0 charging hubs.
Yes in what order do I press these buttons? How does one set up a conference call? Do all participating parties dial in to the conference call or is there a "master" which dials out? Do you need special hardware?
These are all things I don't know, and really don't care to know, because it is knowledge that has already been antiquated. So don't bother answering.
I don't even have POTS and it isn't even available in my building (we have fiber only with optional IP phone service). I wouldn't even know how to hold a conference call over standrad phone service. For video conferencing we've switched to good webcams and Google Hangout. Skype is fine for voice. There are more VOIP providers than there are species of fish. Seriously, if you're so outdated you shouldn't be making conference calls in the first places.
He hasn't released detailed video because he wants to give McDonalds the chance to respond first. He's only posted some images with the faces edited out and basically made the threat to release the rest.
I think you misunderstood me: With freedom of anonymity comes freedom of speech, but freedom of speech does not guarantee anonymity. You shouldn't have to be anonymous to be able to speak freely, and it is to America merit that you have freedom of speach both anonymously and otherwise.
And I am certainly not trying to banish it. My point above about not posting as AC is that with freedom of speech you should not be ashamed or fearful of making your opinions and views known as yourself.
NO. Freedom of speech implies you can say whatever you want without having to put on a Guy Fawkes mask. It means you can speak freely as yourself. The right to remain anonymous is another issue.
How about freedom of speach? You're free to give your own opinions and pull up bullshit statistics and make reference to random crap and bicker all you want so go for it. And how about not posting as AC if you do.
Or what if it's the wrong person with your name? I know my name doesn't show up for me at all (I'm not registered by my real name on social networks etc.).
Their lunar probe Chandrayaan-1 was $90 million - with 4 years since then they very well may have cut costs even further.
And you're talking about America, the land where subcontractors regularly charge $400 for a hammer and $10 per nail.

Aaah, I've never read this so that went right over my head. Thanks for clearing my confusion though.

At war with Eastasia? ... I'm Japanese...

My Android IS11CA lasts a good 3 days in idle mode. Don't get me wrong, that's nothing fantastic, but it's well more than a day.

Aaaah, I didn't think of that sort of situation. Thanks for pointing that out.
Of course it still doesn't change the fact I would have no idea how to dial in to a conference call in the first place.

That's the CDC, and they tried....

Maybe they worked for British Air...

I know you can't do nearly as much in Windows as you can in Linux or OSX. And that's all I need to know.
