Maybe the fact that they are now doing proper reverse and forward matching to prevent host spoofing is adding the overhead you're feeling. That's assuming they did :)

Interestingly enough Tesco (a massive uk chain of supermarkets) are implementing their newest checkout apps in linux! Conversely Sainsbury's (their major rival) use NT. I was amused to notice this when upon seeing familiar messages ona few checkouts in Sainsbury's I looked closer to see that Dr Watson had detected appplication errors and seen fit to close the checkouts.

  3. Rebuild? on How To Secure A Cracked Box · · Score: 1

Can you really ever be sure without a full reinstall? Sure there are systems out there that take snapshots and check crucial files but imho, once compromised, start from scratch. It may be painful but it is better than the alternative which is to risk being compromised a second or successive times.

  6. PHP-zend on Changing the Software License? · · Score: 1

For those who have been following the development of php one answer to the question is obvious. Modularisation of additional features allows zend to decide exactly which features of the project they wish to gpl and which they would rather commercialise. It remains to be seen whether this amalgomy of open source and commercial principles will be popular among those consumers for whom open source is becoming a way of life.

I would like to see more books' content made available on the internet. As I am sure would many others. Major publishers such as O'Reilly take note.

If they'd had a woman in charge back in Sir Francis Drake's time, we'd all be speaking French now! Perish the thought.
I appreciate the humour in this but given the "quality" of reponses /. is generating lately I wonder how many others do?
