Let's see. His treatment of prisoners has been ruled unconstitutional on multipleoccasions. He has raided an office of his own county without a warrant of any kind in order to seize emails that are to be used against him in court. His destruction of records has netted him a contempt sanction, and the FBI is investigating him for civil rights violations, intimidation of witnesses, etc.
These aren't idle accusations. They're at least serious enough to get the justice department involved. Even judges aren't immune from this mans corruption.
As for Sheriff Joe, if people break the law (enter the country illegally) shouldn't the law enforcement officials arrest them and detain them? Don't like the law, then elect people to get it changed.
If you can't be bothered to put forward the minimal effort it takes to make and distribute your own PGP keys, privacy really isn't that important to you. Using a provider like Hushmail is worse than no encryption at all, as it gives you a false sense of security.
Ten grand a month sounds a bit high. I'm willing to bet these people make about minimum wage. Enough to keep up with rent in a trailer park and fill the fridge with Miller High Life. That's why it's so hard to get rid of. These are people with no other prospects, and nothing to lose.
This is the new War on Drugs. Think of all the freedom we lost fighting the war on drugs. If you're within 100 miles of a border, you can be stopped and search for any reason without a warrant. It's a common occurrence to piss in a cup in front of a stranger as a condition of employment. Anyone carrying moderate to large amounts of cash can have it confiscated by the police, with no trial of any sort. And so on.
But the war on drugs is old and busted, we need a new enemy. As the U.S. loses its economic dominance of the world, anything that threatens (whether in theory or fact) the cultural dominance we've had is going to be attacked vigorously. It will be a scorched earth policy. We can expect to lose as many, if not more of our right under this new War on Copyright Infringement. It's just ramping up now, but we'll be seeing people who speak out against the new laws branded as anti-American. Copyright infringement will become a jailable offense.
Sure, it sounds preposterous now. But once upon a time jailing someone for Cannabis would have been preposterous. The American propaganda system is the best in the world. If they can sell a 70 year war on a substance that's factually safer than aspirin, if they can manipulate us into an optional war in Iraq for absolutely no reason at all, they'll have no problem turning copyright infringement into the next witch hunt.
Beware of pleasure! Pleasure is evil! Only this guy puts forth the secular version - pleasure shall not lead to eternal damnation, but rather to species extinction in this case
As a secularist, I don't see how the latter leads to the former in any way. If everyone makes informed decisions to further their self-interest by not procreating, how is that bad for anyone?
I recall an earlier post today that basically indicates that the more the government tries to oppress freedom of speech, the more clever those with drive will become to avoid such measures.
The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers.
Simply having difficulty getting your message out, or not having people listen or care, is NOT censorship.
No, it's not censorship. But as a means of controlling public opinion, ignoring or marginalizing inconvenient information is just as effective if not more so. At least in China people know the state controlled media is state controlled. If there's any doubt as to the power of American propaganda look at the history of Cannabis prohibition. We're coming up 70 years of prohibiting this dangerous drug which is factually safer than aspirin. Only now is there a glimmer of hope with some ballot initiatives in a few states, but there's a long way to go. If there were really a free exchange of ideas in the US it would have never been prohibited in the first place.
Yep, they really pushed the cabinet around for that. They did however fake the gameplay on the cabinet. That would be really hard to capture on video with all the changing lighting.

R is the open source implementation of the S language. The commercial version is S-Plus.

And when Sheriff Joe breaks the law?
Yea, except the founding fathers weren't going around robbing liquor stores
No, they were pillaging shipments of tea.
If it gets compromised, the money comes out of your own account. If a credit card gets compromised, the money comes from the credit card company.

I'm confused. Anime is japanese cartoons. Hentai is japanese cartoon pornography. How is hentai not then a form of anime?
Sony advertised their console as being able to play games AND run Linux. Not "or".
Ohh, 48 hours to make a game. This being Sid Meier I thought it was 48 hours to complete the game.
You can shove that standard straight up your ass, because it's none of your damn business what these people choose to put in their bodies.
Something about that statement strikes me as contradictory.
Suggesting that corporate profits are more important than individual liberties is itself an extreme position.

I'm glad to hear that, that's a bad situation to actually be in. Perhaps there's an analog of Poe's law that would apply to relationship humor.

this article is also on eff's site who have their own narrow minded goals
Freedom is not a narrow minded goal.

Wow, your marriage is pretty fucked up.
By those numbers the average refund is $2143.88. WTF.
It's been done already.

So put the C64 emulator on it and play those games. They're much better anyway.
Now someone just needs to write a C64 emulator in javascript, enabling people to code Microsoft BASIC on their iPhone.
Must have hit pretty close to the mark to get him all riled up like that, huh kid?
