As a musician I wonder what in the hell it is that makes other musicians whine about not earning enough money. Who told you making waves in the air would let you of the hook? You'll need to touch people on some level in order for that to happen. Do yo realise how many musicians are out there? That may have been what the business looked like when money was overflowing the industry because certain REAL talents generated tons of revenue because of great public demand and just the right amount of supply. Well, things change and suddenly the supply is endless and we don't need huge meddling record labels anymore because it's easy and cheap to produce good quality recordings and the distribution takes care of itself. If you're good enough that is. Otherwise, GTFO. This musician for one welcomes file sharing, because it filters out people who aren't actually artists, people who say "If I'm not getting paid, then I wont write or perform!" -Well boo-hoo. There are like a billion other mediocre artists like you and me and the money just won't go around so we ALL can stay home and be creative. Besides, real musicians don't stop writing just because they are starving in the streets. Get a job!

  3. Re:escalators too on Should Cities Install Moving Sidewalks? · · Score: 1

In Japan they have a cool solution: the escalator ends up having two lines. The people on the left keep walking, and those on the right stand. I guess for that to become a custom you'd need escalators that are typically crowded, which most in the US are not.

Here in Sweden this behaviour is localized so that in Stockholm you have the lane-system, but in Gothenburg people tend to just stand around. Like you said, that probably has to do with how crowded the escalators are. Speaking of social engineering bugs caused by unforeseen human flock-stupidity, in Gothenburg people tend to try to get ON the trams BEFORE letting the passangers OFF! This causes a panicy, riot-like, silent elbow battle at every damn stop, even if there are only 6 people getting off, and 10 people getting on. This sometimes makes me run out of the tram and intentionally and obviously try to block as many people as possible from getting on until the tram is unloaded. I have never witnessed this behaviour anywhere else. How do you make large populations agree on unwritten laws like "it is faster if we empty the tram first, so that there is a chance that you all will fit in the first place."?

...My point being that research like this will never get truthful answers, because people very often act very differently from how they percieve themselves.

  5. B to the S on Study Finds Google Is More Trusted Than Traditional Media · · Score: 2, Insightful

My take on this is that the majority of people, when asked "Do you trust the media?" will answer that "No, I do not." However, in reality they don't think twice about the validity of what they read or hear on TV. It's one of those viewpoints people like to claim to have to sound educated, critical and thoughtful. Quite similiar to all the people who say "I don't judge people by the colour of their skin", "I make sure to check my damn sources on the internet" or "Homosexuality is fine" and STILL firmly grip their wallet when walking through areas were most of the minorities live, still buy any crap any aluminium-hat sells them and still wince at the sight of two men making out (but strangely rarely at LEZBOES.)
