"working the patent system is the sign of a weak company"
Linus Still has a patent for the Linux Kernel, I don't see anything wrong with that.
Perhaps it's just a matter of protecting products from people more agressive and evil then them. IBM isn't fantastic, but it's sure a hell of a lot more reliable then Sun, Microsoft and Oracle.
So we've got some people who are taking this as a menial joke, but then the others that are seeing this as the serious issue it could be, should we let this thing run wild.
This has some great comparisons towards a police state that is not run by a democratic government (due to it being run by a coporation) and it's not the actual site that scares me, just the idea that it could carry on into something more serious.
Unfortunately they started executing the Danish en mass. We'd hope we're not that far, but when was the last time the US government was responsible for wrongly penalising someone?
Double edged sword here. We can all not care about social/environmental aspects like most of the other "established" industries, or...we can give them hell and create a new business standard. One of the reasons why I love computers/tech/internet so much is the fact that so many people aren't stuck in the same archaic paradigms that run the old systems (like cars, petroleum, banking, etc.). The biggest problem here is that I love my tech so much it takes a big issue to get me to pick the 233mhz over the 700mhz. Let's all just sit on the fence and let the government deal with the problems.
What we really need to do is create an open source OS/2/Linux deal, running on Amiga, that way we've got the ultimate in Hard core. You wouldn't be able to get those freaks away from their computers.
The Pres (Lou Gerstner) has said many things about OS/2. IBM as a whole seems to be generally confused as to what to do with it. I think they all just want it to go away.
It's pretty staight forward guy. Most script kiddies are junkies who spend way too much time on IRC. Deny them that and maybe you'll send a message to them. Although more likely you'll piss them off and they'll start trying to crack you. Let's all just point and laugh when the plan backfires on them.
The majority of people don't need to have the expertise to install linux. Everyone I know comes to me for answers and if I tell them to install something they will (Speaking strickly of the non-tech folks I deal with), the people who make the software, install and fix computers are the people who make the choices around here. And it's pretty clear where things are heading.

Did you bother to read what it was about? NETWORKING...not just computers in general, GUI's, Gaming, and Utilities do very little for networking.
Thanks for coming out.
Hate to say it, but really, I don't think anyone even has a clue as to an answer.
We keep seeing people point out the problems in the world, but no one seems to be coming up with any alternative answers (Eg., DC this weekend).
Try looking that up on a search engine.

Um...just because the majority of topics are linux related, I still see MANY non linux topics. You should really lay off the pipe.
