  1. Trailers are misleading on Best Video Game Trailers? · · Score: 1

The problem I have with trailers for so many PC and console games is that they often don't show any actual gameplay. Usually it's just animation rendered outside of the game engine that relates to the storyline, which for me is not why I buy games.

A good storyline is great, but for any game I'm gonna buy, I've gotta be interested in the gameplay. Often you can't determine whether that's any good without a demo or a rental.

I think everyone will agree that conservation helps, but overall it will not meet the needs of a growing population and an ever-increasingly energy-driven economy.

When you have MORE people, and MORE businesses and technologies that use electricity, you must have MORE power.

Moderating our usage of power while also requiring more power to grow will not solve these problems. Lets conserve power and try to limit our usage, but let's make sure the capacity is there to support our growth at the same time. Then maybe we can talk about having a choice to conserve, instead of it being a requirement imposed on us by our overloaded system.

I think they already know. People have been raising this red flag for awhile.

It's pretty scary. I don't think another attack on the scale of 9-11 is likely (short of a nuclear/biologic attach), but if something like that did happen, imagine if they were able to take down a power grid of that size before striking.

Agreed, but the issue here is the scale of the outage, during rush-hour, in our most populated city, as well as several others.

If you look at the sheer number of people affected, you can clearly see the major story that this is, regardless of the terrorism angle.

Although I completely agree that disconnecting can be a big help in reducing distractions for most people - it doesn't always help those who really suffer from conditions like ADD. This is a common misconception of the condition - that proper discipline and removal of distractions will fix ADD symptoms.

It does nothing to address the real issue for those of us who really suffer from ADD, which is how the mind wanders when trying to focus on a task, regardless of outside influences. Although an ADDer will be tempted by watching TV or surfing the web, just as often they'll stare blankly at their screen, their mind wandering on a thousand different thought paths before they pull themselves back to reality and realize that they're behind on the task they're supposed to be working on. This is something that ADDers have NO control over, and sometimes have no awareness of until they "wake up."

ADDers take the concept of daydreaming to whole new levels. Removing distractions doesn't help. We make our own distractions.

Don't even remember that America is a nation of immigrants and the first white settlers sailed over from an intolerant England.

Believe me, we're well aware that we're a nation of immigrants, almost all of whom came here to escape persecution and autocracy. We pride ourselves on it. It's a motivating factor in our attempts to bring peace and democracy to the rest of the world, and to defend the system that other nations envy.

What right does America have to interfere there?

What right does America have? The right to defend ourselves. Besides, there's this:

    UN 687

    "33. Declares that, upon official notification by Iraq to the Secretary-General and to the Security Council of its acceptance of the above provisions, a formal cease-fire is effective between Iraq and Kuwait and the Member States cooperating with Kuwait in accordance with resolution 678 (1990);

    34. Decides to remain seized or the matter and to take such further steps as may be required for the implementation of the present resolution and to secure peace and security in the region. "

I don't think anyone would disagree that our media has serious problems (as does the media in most countries), but trust me, it doesn't necessarily reflect our society. Don't interpret what you see in our media as an indicator of our beliefs or understanding of the world. We think our media is as rotten as you do.

I think most Americans are quite informed, knowledgeable about our history and that of the world, and are completely comfortable with our current role in it (acknowledging that we've made mistakes in the past and present, as do all nations). Learn to accept that other cultures and societies have different opinions than you do, and that we don't all need re-education until we agree with your point-of-view.

And I just want to get this straight - are you saying the propoganda and legacy of evil in Germany pale by comparison to the United States? That's so outrageous I don't even know how to respond. What you have suggested is absolutely frightening. Having the UN "intervene" to teach Americans our place in the world?

Even the concept shows you have no understanding of America, its values or its history. We've fought wars over that kind of intrusion, internationally and internally.

With this new version, Macromedia has added an accessibility object that will allow developers to specify alternate content for screen readers. It's based on Microsoft technology, so I'm not sure how well it will work over other OS's and devices.

Here's what Macromedia has about it on their site:

"Macromedia Flash Player 6 now supports assistive technologies such as screen readers through support of Microsoft Active Accessibility. In addition, Macromedia Flash MX now integrates tools for creating accessible content. To add descriptive text to animations and user interface elements, select an item and enter the appropriate description. Users with disabilities will be able to experience your content. "
