  1. Re:SOAP!!! on Making The Case For Open Groupware · · Score: 1

Soap does fix the data transfer problem, which indirectly solves the groupware problem.

The *nix philosophy has been "small reusable tools hooked together through pipes". Right now, the general *nix population is scratching it's head and saying, "Hm. How do we extend this idea to the GUI world?" But IBM, MS, and all the other big boys were asking this question two years ago. SOAP is the answer. The philosophy is "small reusable components hooked together through interfaces".

You want Groupware on linux? No problem... take your SOAP enabled email client, point it at the SOAP interfaces of your SOAP enabled calendar app, etc, etc.

It's true that in conditions described by Global Warming the average temperature of the earth does increase. However, the real damaging effects of Global Warming are brought about by the increased range of temperatures experienced during a year. I.e. the summer high's are hotter, and the winter lows are colder.

Microsoft makes operating systems/applications that target big business' needs. This means that MS's OS's don't typically have everything "we want". However, it does make them a successful _business_.

The "quality" of a distribution doesn't matter as much in Market Darwinism as the business model/marketing department/vp's of the company making that distrobution.

Okay, we all hate Microsoft, but come on. Cheap digs like "you don't have to wait for a service pack" will just turn people off. (Remember the first Gore vs. Bush debate?)

You can't do that standing on such shaky ground. One could argue that it _is_ a service pack, or point out that MS does usually release patches to serious problems within a week as well as rolling them up into a service pack.
