Would a picture-in-picture system work?
Perhaps a 3D image could be located in the bottom right portion of a screen. It could be used to show 3D closeups of key people and events (interspersed with commercials). Then you could have a widescreen view that was constantly giving you the overall picture of the game or crowd.
It would be a blast to get to see in 3D what happens to the quarterback after he throws the pass while simultaneously watching the overall play from a wider angle. And it could make commercials stop breaking up the flow of games.
