And if my mileage drops from the Advertised EPA 45 to 40 because of this? Since I bought my TDi specifically because of the MPG ratings, I would think I should have some recourse.
So you want compensation because your vehicle will have the exact specifications that you mutually agreed upon when you bought the car?
how is this wrong? This is the mode that VW was telling us that the car was running in. It is a crime for them to sell cars that do not operate in this mode. They have "tweaked" the cars on the road, they are not certified, they don't pass, they are in a bogus mode, not a "normal" one.
You don't understand. The emission testing mode is retarding the engine. The non emission testing is the normal mode.
The car was certified under the "emission testing mode" and so that is by definition the "normal" mode. The car was not certified or anything else in the bogus mode that people are currently driving it around in.
How much water do you save taking an 30-minute shower with a showehead that uses half the water, compared to a 15-minute shower with a regular showerhead?
Normal human beings can get clean with a 5 minute low flow shower. What is your problem that you need a half an hour?
if the engine computer is working normally during the emissions test and in "High power" mode otherwise, then every internal engine part is being stressed beyond its design and you will see premature timing chain failures and premature main bearing failures.
Make Office 2016 work on Linux distros, then release Windows 11 built on a Linux kernel. So many heads would explode...
I got brain cancer from just reading your post, so I concur. The mental hospitals would be bursting at the seams with IT people, all of whom would be gibbering madly and frothing at the mouth.
Why? All this microsoft stuff is already running on OSX. Porting from BSD to linux should not be a big deal.
Xenix was licenced from the then SCO to Microsoft:) It was therefore a rebadged SCO Unix it wasn't made by MS.
SCO's C compiler was Microsoft C++, not the Unix one. It's not exactly "rebadging" when you rip out the C compiler and modify all the source code to work with the new compiler.
A vanilla Linux kernel with some packages compiled and installed could be used for very serious things...
The vanilla kernel either fails badly or has many missing features on server systems. Mine will only boot up and run correctly with an enterprise linux like RHEL or CentOS or SLES. With a vanilla kernel just about nothing works right. There are super-critical patches for particular models of RAID controllers, NUMA, etc. that are not in the vanilla kernel.
Maybe it's actually part of the campaign. Give people the idea that Surface and iPad are interchangeable things. When you're a secondary brand, you don't mind being confused with the market leader!
Except when people go to the store, they ask for what they know. They ask for an ipad, they get an ipad, they don't get a surface. The TV announcers may be confused but the salesman at best buy will get the customer what they ask for.
I'll do you one better: The Surface has 2 places on it where it says "Surface" and 3 if you count the windows bootup startup screen which says only "Surface" on it.
and microsoft STILL can't get people to say it right.
Hoover is only generic in one country. Well, maybe two; I don't know what the Scots say. Here in the US we say "vacuum". Hoover is still a brand name of vacuum cleaners.
hoover is also a brand of "blankets" if you are old enough to remember

would also have the upshot of working with older vehicles that don't have such a port.
This port goes back to the mid 1990s.
Vehicles of that age are generally exempt from testing.
Why is that? In the end they will be getting the exact same automobile that they were told that they were buying.
please explain how the CPU speed affects the quality of the telephone calls

just like some people like low flow shower heads and low flow toilets.
some of us actually have to pay water bills
For the majority of people, a slight difference in emissions would be preferable to a noticeable drop in performance.
Because you just can't have enough horsepower. Faster faster faster!
And this is exactly why you test emissions at the tailpipe and not from the OBD port.
that old muffler with the hole in it is still good for something
I read a short story where Germany won World War I, and got all of Britain's colonies.
You can prove anything you want to, if you start with a lie.
Linux compatibility is irrelevant to this discussion.
compatibility with customer skills is always relevant to the discussion of things to be sold

They use OS X, too, in a few places
Microsoft is the #1 vendor of OSX software, which makes Microsoft the #1 vendor of BSD software.

They are PAID PROFESSIONALS who should be held accountable to the paid profession in which they are engaging.
they are paid to announce a football game
they are not paid to announce what toys people are using
Mind you this are NFL commentators.
Who are not being paid by microsoft. This is actually a smart move, maybe they can convince microsoft to pay them to say it right.
The commentators are supposed to be professionals
Unless microsoft is paying them to do it right, I don't see your point. They are supposed to "Call them as they see them" and they see ipads.
If you are going to a conference or a business meeting and you need to do some last-minute edits on your presentation,
then you aren't properly prepared, this seems to be a pretty common theme of people who use microsoft devices, they expect miracles to bail them out.
Are you saying companies shouldn't advertise?
Maybe they could think it through instead of being surprised when the obvious happens.
Calling out Microsoft for this is disingenuous
Yeah it's not their fault the NFL is using them, oh wait, it is.
