He was burned at the stake for heresy. You tell me of a priest who speaks about the dangers of questioning the bible, and I will do my best to censor him.
Fuck freedom of speech. People need to care about other people, not about stupid ideals.
In case you're wondering, I'm white.
Whether or not it's copied, it's a very good idea.
Until we get smart enough computers, http://discovermagazine.com/2009/oct/06-brain-like-chip-may-solve-computers-big-problem-energy/article_view?b_start:int=0&-C= [discovermagazine.com], our best tools for understanding (finding the best model to fit given experimental data) are biological brains.
Personally, I would pay game developers to think of translating problems in modern science into simple games for brains that wouldn't get bored too soon (like children, cats and dogs). Why use complicated learning algorithms when they're already implemented in brains?
My bank gave me a digipass. it's a small calculator thingie that generates numbers once i put in a pin, and i assume the bank computer keeps track of all the digipasses and knows what number to expect from me (each digipass has an id and similar). So a potential thief needs my pin and my digipass in order to use my homebank account.
I think this is as safe as it can get (it feels a lot safer than carrying around a credit card).
And for the rest, keep it simple. do you really have access to critical data? if not, think of a long full phrase for each pass: "ThisIsMyPasswordForThisInterestingWebsite". Obviously, you can make variations of this, combine it with the pwgen program that someone mentioned earlier and so on. It should be safe enough.
If you do have access to critical data, it gets complicated. you could however apply a few permutations to a full phrase, and remember the permutations additionally to the full phrase.
yes, there is freedom in making your own decisions. the boy said to have the debate in person, and the other guy asked if he often invites people home. for me it's clear that the question has absolutely no connection with the debate, and it's just meant to hurt the boy. In this case, I wouldn't care who is who, once you say something with the intention of hurting the other person, you should say who you are. you are free to say it, but don't hide. let society decide if you are right in hurting the other person or not (society will be represented by a judge or a jury or whatever).
so, to reiterate: the judge says "you hurt someone who proposed a debate, you do not have the right to be anonymous".
I read the linked article, and another link from there, and I understood that the invitation was for a debate, not a fight. In this case, I agree with the judge.
new news is always old news when you look for science in everyday magazines/newspapers.
Anyway, I remember knowing from somewhere (school, discovery, whatever) that Africa is due for another splitting in some millions of years (the great lakes are just rifts filled with water from what I remember)
I found this webpage http://www.see.leeds.ac.uk/afar/ the new news is at least a few months old. maybe the news is just that they published an article about it.
Additionally to the search advantages, pdfs and dejavus are a lot easier to carry around than paper books (remember the weight limit on luggage for airplanes...). If you are a PhD student or a postdoc, it's very likely you are living in a new city, and you will travel around a bit (for the holidays, for conferences etc); it's a huge advantage to be able to carry books with you. I'm pretty sure that in the academic environment pdfs will become the norm in just a few years, because researchers don't really care about having a paper book, they care about having many readers.
And in regards to literature... don't you know you can find that too on the net? But I'm not sure I can say anything more than www.gutenberg.org here.
OK, let me rephrase that.
first situation:
George Bush performs act A.
Anonymous dude 1 doesn't like act A and compares George Bush to a monkey.
second situation:
Michelle Obama exists.
Anonymous dude 2 compares Michelle Obama to a monkey.
why am I wrong?
