But in the world of Washington politics, geektivists are woefully outnumbered by the natives who populate and influence confirmation hearings: Corporate, nonprofit and trade association lobbyists.
'Geektivist's' simply don't have the cash to compete with corporate lobbyist. There is no money in being morally right. Money buys laws.
..Ok, so it wasn't as funny as I originally thought.. Now what I really want to know is, in their dream-world when this scheme does away with 'Piracy' will I no longer have to pay this stupid Canadian tax on blank digital media?
Baalke said the possible size of the meteor "depends on the composition of the meteor and the speed it was traveling. It could have been as small as a baseball " and would have been traveling between 100 mph and 200 mph.
..It would be tough to hit if it was 'as small as a baseball.. Of course it *could* have been as big as a compact car, but then again it *could* have been made of swiss cheese..
..I just wait for the copy protected CD's to be played on the radio, then I tape em on 120 minute cassettes.. Wow- I'm time-shifting.. can you dig it? This radical technique even gives me the ability to fast forward past commercials and irritating DJ's talking loudly about 'less talk, more rock'..Woo hoo.. I'm livin' in the future now..
Man, I'm glad I transfered all my domains away from Netsol.. I can't see how they can carry on in this way, this is a bit like realizing you cut yourself shaving and mummifying your head to stop the bleeding.
Get a clue Netsol, its called Competition and its not going away..
Miguel de Icaza, Mono's founder, said, "The consensus is that [Microsoft] could stop someone from implementing the specs by using patents. [But] nothing in dot-Net is really innovative, so it would be simple to use alternative non-patented approaches."
..At first maybe the newbie clicks the ad.. It doesn't take long though before the ads just annoy and the automatic reaction is to kill the popups and/or install adblocking proxies without reading the sales pitch.
I think part of the problem is that too many ads limit the effectiveness. That is to say we are inundated with advertising, and even if there is a good offer or interesting deal in there, I assume its a stupid rip-off deal and skip it. bleagh
you can get a scanner for between $300 & $500. Note that this does NOT include the laser or the chassis, which can run you MUCH MUCH more depending on the laser power. IF you already have a cheep laser, you can rig up one of these on a homemade chassis and use it with software like the one in this story.
Well, here we are in the future - wheres my jet-pack?..
This reminds me a bit of a program I had way back when on my Amiga 2000 that would output audio signals to create patterns with a laser scanner. By far the simpler and cheaper route to go is to get yourself a cheap surplus laser and clue a non-flat mirror to a motor shaft.. By playing around with the angle of the mirror you can adjust the projected pattern.. Not nearly as high-tech, but cheap and cheerful for the party wall..
I drink a can in the morning everyday, instead of coffee... am I at risk?
..That depends.. A can of what? A can of motor-oil?..A can of Red-Bull?
As long as you drink it after you've woken up, and as long as your not mixing it with Methyl-Ethyl-Ketones, you're probably going to be OK, but just to be safe you should wait for the Governments approval. This goes for everything in life- Sex, Caffeine, loud music, exercise.. Whatever it is that you want to do, please ask you congress-person for permission first..
You're right - I was curious about the composite ratio in the rules.. I've now found out - The official rules state that the mix must contain 75% portland cement, and the UAH pdf list their mix as containing 80% portland cement. In fact they are using the same mix as the team from the previous year. I must admit I am suprised that a composite with 80% Portland cement could be that flexible. br>
..Yeah, and if we could engineer the roads to the right resonant frequency we could save on gas! boing..boing..boing.. Probably have to beef up the suspension on the cars that travel them tho' ---this ain't the Dukes of Hazzard..
Oddly enough concrete boats are not as rare as they may sound - There are many many large boats made of concrete, and from what I've seen they get real ugly, but last and last. A concrete boat sounds kind of silly at first, but when you consider that a lot of boats are made out of Iron and other heavy metals, its not that strange..
The concrete is made up of a mix of Portland cement, glass micro-beads (microscopic hollow spheres), latex, acrylic fortifier and water.
Mix these in the right proportions, allow the mixture to dry for 12 hours and presto -- you have concrete so flexible that it will bend and snap right back with nary a crack.
Hmm.. Yeah its got Portland Cement in it, but it sounds like it is primarily rubber and plastic.. Are there no limitation in the rules about the composition of your 'concrete'?

Sure! why not? Thats just part of the failed business assets.. And the great thing about mailing lists is that unlike a crate of promotional hats or t-shirts, they can be sold again and again!
..Maybe thats why I keep getting so much spam about how I can make *BIG MONEY* buying and selling email adresses. I feel most sorry for the newbies that drop their one email address into online forms and don't know how to filter their spam -
Like the characters in the 1984 movie Repo Man, Pichinson is always intense. When he drives, he cradles his cell phone with his neck, taps on a hand-held computer on his right thigh and stares at a Blackberry e-mail pager between his legs.
Uh.. yeah.. there *have* been some problems at OSDN lately, but don't worry we're working on the problem. Everybody just needs to email their slashdot username/password to me and I'll check to make sure it hasn't been 'compromised'.. Have a nice day!
Do your research, stop trying to control "big business."
All these draconian 'rules' and 'laws' totaly interfere in profit-taking. I mean really, whats with that anyway.. I mean take crack for example.. Do you know what the profit margin is on crack? Its tremendous! And yet 'big business' is not 'allowed' to sell crack to school-children despite its huge potential for earnings. sheesh. commies.
Well, thats *reasonable*.. I mean, I'd like to do my part to make sure that the 'new economy' doesn't grind to a screeching halt, and if that means making comics so that people can donate 30 cents to PayPayPayPal, well that just sounds like a heck of a good deal to me.. Now if only I were in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, I could take advantage of a *wonderful* deal like this..
.. Perhaps people would pay to see Scott and Tyson fight to the death.. we could broadcast the match online and use micropayments to charge viewers admission. The only thing Scott would have to watch out for is getting his ear bitten off. Oh.. wait you said Tycho.. nevermind..
Aren't critics always a bit slow to warm up to something new? Photography, lithography and all sorts of 'technical' artforms went through phases where people were wowed by the technical side of them, but wouldn't consider it art.
Art is such a silly subjective thing. When I was in art-school, the instructors were *very* protective of their 70's era definition of art, and dismissive of a lot of art forms that came before and after.
Ah well, I suppose in 20-30 years there will be a new batch of art students creating a stir with their bio-genetic artworks as my generation adjusts it's glasses and looks back to our flatscreens saying yes yes thats all very impressive, but it's certainly *not* art.
Art is, in a very loose definition, anything you do creatively, if it inspires you, go with it.
Yeah.. I've used a few Compaq desktop PC's without joy. Conflicts galore.. The only thing I wonder is how this decision will affect the only good piece of Compaq hardware I've used- the iPaq. It looks like demand is still high on that one though, and I guess it *kind of* fits into a niche market..
