You don't need the hard drive. It's much cheaper and more efficient to use BOOTP or something and NFS similar with a centralized (non clustered) data storage server, preferably RAIDed out the ass.
Benefits include:
1. Fast drive access because of RAID stripping (net lag on a LAN isn't all that important compared to hard drive access times).
2. Data integrity (if using RAID mirroring).
3. Lower power consumption
4. No moving parts in the nodes
5. BOOTP makes upgrading the kernel on all nodes a linear time operation (the upgrade is once, but the reboots are O(n) ).
6. NFS mounted root (and other) filesystems make upgrading software a constant time operation.
However, you won't be able to use most integrated net cards for this.
I agree with taking out the floppies and cdroms, put them in the file server.
If you go SMP, don't use durons, get the full on athlons. Besides not being certified for SMP by AMD, the cache size in the Durons sucks ass for SMP (also why the dual celeron thing a while back licked).
Last but not least, spend the extra money and get some decent cases that don't take up too much space. Considering how bloody empty the case will be, the smaller the better.
Unlike us nefarious types, John Law is the good guy and must play by the rules. Therefore, law enforcement officers can't simply tap into the Net and start sniffing packets (leaving aside the computing resources required). Well, they could, but they could never get a warrant based on this ill obtained evidence, and it certainly would never be usable in court.
What they do have to do is get a warrant just as if they wanted to tap your phone. And in order to do that, they must already suspect you. So this doesn't add any extra visibily in the face of the law.
As a an aside, using a VPN or even simply tunneling via SSL would easily solve this problem.
1. An Ottawa resident.
2. An ADSL (3Mb down, 1Mb up) residential customer.
3. Paying $64.95 CAD / month + tax (that's including the $5 rebate for subscribing on a yearly basis).
The only reason i can get this service at the speed i do in my area is because i signed up for it very early (when ADSL was brand new). Sympatico won't offer the service to anyone anymore, because they are "loosing money on it" (their words). If i ever cancel it, i can't get it back. I can't even change my phone number (since Sympatico and Bell are so tightly coupled).
Anybody out there think i should complain, and by so doing, risk loosing what i have?
P.S. Rumors i have dug up (and am 99% sure are accurate) say that Sympatico will be rolling out a new DSL service in Dec or Jan that will be 3Mb down, 1 Mb up, will cost the same as HSE, and be available to a 3x wider area. They'll be utilizing Alcatel "modems" (hate calling them that).
Anybody out there want to confirm this?
One of the funniest series i've ever watched. The "hero" is a bumbling idiot 99% of the time, and yet can overcome both himself and any obstacle to selflessly help others as he "studies" the world around him. Some sexual overtones, definetely not family viewing. Good animation, good story, good characters. I understand there is a "Golden Girl" series as well. Although i haven't seen it, if its anything like this series, its hilarious.
All i can say is wow. Great story, lots of twists and turns. Fantastic animation. Good balance of fighting and story, character development. Basic storyline goes... boy discovers vampires are among us, and decides to fight them, quickly discovers world isn't black and white, and must find a shade of gray to exist in.
I've only managed to see the movie version of this, but i got the impression there was a series (or possibly a comic book) behind it. A group of magically endowed humans (called dragons in the movie, though im not sure its literal) on the sides of good and evil clash to decide the fate of earth. Caught up in (and the deciding combatants) are 2 friends both in love with the same woman. Eventually they are destined to face off. Great animation, great storyline, good characters (would have been better if it had been longer than 2 hours).
Easily one of the best anime i've seen (and i've seen lots). Very bloody, lots of action. Basically it's a bunch of super hero types investigating, hunting, and then fighting the super vilain. Cool idea behind the powers ("stands"), great animation, good storyline. 6 episodes, each about 25 min.
I recently submitted a fix for this to LinuxCare. Works like this: Assign drive letter(s) to your Linux partition(s). Get a hold of w2kTweakUI and "hide" all the drive letters you just created. (NOTE: this only seems to work as administrator, or on the single user install, as other users don't seem to inheret your tweakUI settings, and don't have permisions to edit them themselves). w2k will now play happy with your #82 and #83 (Linux) partitions. And yes, M$ employees are all on crack. Otherwise they might have enough self respect to quit. PS. The winbloze 5.xx detonator series of drivers is specifically written for the GTS. Its just backwards compatible with everything else (as their drivers have been since TNT2). So the winbloze users also have the drivers already. Sorry dude.

Actually, yes im aware that one was her brother. Despite that, he still loved her (hehe). I was just trying to keep my blurb short.
