Who the hell do you think got the whole Free Software bandwagon rolling? RMS and the GNU community, the stuck-up morons who have joined forces with the Debian group to keep the spirit of Free and Open Software alive.

They don't believe in restrictive licenses, if you don't like that, get another distribution. There are plenty...

  3. Who's The Tallest Midget? on Is Red Hat becoming too powerful? · · Score: 1

Asking if Red Hat is too powerful is like asking who's the world's tallest midget...

Compared to Micro$oft, Apple (yes Mackos, Apple contains 7 essential vices and malices, and fortified evil), and even "good guys" like Sun, SGI, HP, IBM, Oracle, AOL/Netscape (who are sorta like Two Face from Batman), etc.... Red Hat are nobodies, but good friends of the Linux world.
Commercial Linux distributions will allow the commercial world to more readily accept Linux as an OS, and Red Hat seem to be doing a good job of keeping prices low and maintaining the integrity of Linux.

Personally, I prefer a Linux with a solid base and an easy installer for servers and primary workstations, and more hackish Linux releases for stations dedicated to Linux development. Administering systems is enough of a hassel without making tools that make install and admin easier (like Red Hat and SuSE provide for Linux) into political foes...

  4. Freedom of Speech vs. Right to Privacy on Court rules website threats harm · · Score: 1

I think that any Liberal or Libertarian who looks at this site from the Freedom of Speech perspective need also look at it from a Right to Privacy perspective as well.

I believe that nobody should have the right to publish the home address of any person without that person's consent. This information is not relevant to any legitimate reportage or opinion regarding the individual(s) in question.

Also, as a general response to the people who said the Nuremburg Files site does not make threats, the proper statement is that it does not make direct threats. However, the Christian Gallery site in general does advocate deadly action in the fight against those they see as unrighetous. In fact, the site openly advocates the seccession of a Christian state from the USA through the use of nuclear weapons. I didn't have the stamina to wade through the rest of the delusional crap on the site, but I wouldn't put it past the proprietor to openly advocate individual murder (provided it is a righeteous murder in his eyes) as well.

It will be a difficult task to protect our liberties and at the same time protect our lives from terrorists, assasins, and other fanatics...
Frankly, curbing Freedom of Speech is at least as dangerous as terrorism, but I do not believe that prohibiting the publication of people's address and family information without their permission is enough of an infringement upon Freedom of Speech to outweigh the benefits in terms of Right to Privacy and the safety of people who hold views which are in disagreement with violent fanatics.
