...of NOT using VLC. Whenever anyone complains about video playback problems, the first question is "what video player are you using?" Once they say "VLC" the response is "don't use VLC, use Media Player Classic Home Cinema," and they do, and everything works.
That's odd, I've never had video playback issues with VLC.
("But I use Linux!" Then you're used to video not working.
And yet again, when I used Linux I never had video playback issues there either.
Installing... Oh, nice it tries to steal file associations for all video/audio files when you install it.
Yes, that's something many people prefer when they install VLC. Including me.
Let's just drag a video onto it and start playing and... no? No drag and drop support? Seriously?
Each to their own, I sure don't find it difficult to doubleclick a file, though.
Huh. The colors all washed out.
You've got a messed-up system, there. Or you're lying, I don't know which. Never seen VLC produce washed-out colors on any system I've used, built or seen.
Anyone want to help me figure out why it doesn't work
A grand total of zero computers in my company have a public IP address or are accessible from the Internet. What makes you think any printers would be?
I never claimed to have visited your company, did I? But e.g. all the schools I've been at had all the printers fully accessible everywhere, including outside. Similarly, I've been doing odd jobs for this or that company, and their printers weren't secured either in any way or form.
Ie. of course there are good admins out there. But there are also terribly bad ones, too.
True, but most aren't given public IP addresses (any many aren't even given access out the firewall to try and figure out the public address)
You're assuming the network admins are both competent and actually care. Neither of which are usually true. Everywhere where I've seen a networked printer it has always had fully public IP address and accessible from the Internet. The admins just don't bother to do anything about it.
You'll get no argument from me there. I never said I was in favour of these microdots, just that they're REALLY ineffective and therefore you can generally happily ignore the attempted invasion of privacy and it's no big deal.
I see where you're coming from, but I personally see even the attempt at such as a rather disgusting move. But as I said, that's just how I feel about it, I don't expect everyone to feel the same way.
My employer (right up to senior management at our parent company) knows when I agree with them and when I disagree. I'm secure enough in my position there that I know I don't need to kiss arse to keep my job.
Good for you tbh:) I myself would be loud and clear whenever I felt there was shortcomings on our products or the company did something questionable or stupid, and I wouldn't be afraid of criticising my superiors either as I value healthy criticism more than mindless butt kissing. Then again, I'm unemployed and would likely get fired rather quickly exactly because of that..( superiors do not like to hear criticism, they want to feel pampered! );)
2. spend less money subsidizing the corn, sugar, and 'value added' goods industries based off of those two carbohydrates
Here in Finland they've already raised prices on sugary products, like e.g. chocolate and other candy. Haven't had any effect though, people are just spending more money now while still eating the same amount of it. Doesn't work.
3. pay doctors to stop people from getting diabetes in the first place, instead of paying them to diagnose and treat it.
The issue is that it is not possible to fit huge amounts of drugs inside of these kinds of chips. Of course, there is no need for capsules or such, nor any extra ingredients to make sure that the drug passes into the bloodstream properly as these drugs aren't ingested, they're injected straight into body and as such the drugs do not take as much space as conventional ones. But there is still only a limited amount of space there.
With that in mind, I could definitely see these used in situations where the drugs aren't to be administered often. Like e.g. a diabetic would administer insulin normally as they do now, but that person could have one of these chips implanted for emergency situations where insulin suddenly drops dangerously low.
In the future I could see several implants communicating with one another, like a chip planted near the heart on people with one or another heart condition could send an emergency notice to one of these chips to administer more nitro into the bloodstream. Similarly, I have two friends who are epileptic and they could also possibly benefit from such a monitoring implant if it was implanted near their brains.
Possibly when the chips can draw enough power from the body they could even employ NFC or some other wireless communication method that would send an emergency signal to a nearby monitoring device/mobile phone/etc. and that would place a call for an ambulance.
I don't much like many of Combichrist's lyrics. There's too much misogyny -- songs like "Shut Up and Swallow" and "Give Head If You've Got It" especially.
Heh. I don't disagree with you there, though I still find them quite a likeable band. Not my favorite though, at the moment my favorites include bands like Nachtmahr, Agonoize, Aesthetic Perfection and Grendel, all terribly good bands and makes for absolutely fantastic listening while roadraging.
I live in London, let me know if you visit:-). I'm often found at Slimelight.
I would love to visit a real, proper goth club. But I'd have to save money for the next, say, 50 years, to have the kind of money to travel anywhere. Not to mention that I'd just feel like a whale in a pottery shoppe in one, among all the beautiful people. -- self-esteem, is that something edible?
Being able to browse the contents of the.iso is not the same thing as mounting it; try to e.g. start an installation program from there when you've opened it in Dolphin and you'll quickly see why.
BTRFS has yet to become the defacto file system in any linux distro today that I'm aware of, but it's well under way. That said, BTRFS will be a complete replacement for ext4, while ReFS is being phased in with a cautious approach (no system drives on ReFS).
I read somewhere that BTRFS would become the default on Fedora if there existed a stable, useable fsck-utility for it; as it is now if your BTRFS system becomes corrupted and doing full re-balancing of it doesn't fix the corruption, then there's quite little you can do about it. That is not to say BTRFS is unstable or anything, they're just playing their cards safe in waiting for such a utility to become available before making BTRFS the default FS.
That said, I've been using BTRFS for about a year now and I'm quite happy with it. There is one niggle that I am not too happy about, but I believe that it'll be rectified sometime in the future if I just can manage to wait for it. The niggle is that I have compression enabled on the filesystem and sometimes BTRFS reports that there's hundreds of gigabytes free space left, but when I'm trying to write there I get disk full errors; it is fixable by doing complete re-balancing of the whole filesystem, but with 5 terabytes of disk space it takes god damn forever.
You too are missing the point: Microsoft is selling Windows 8 and Windows 8, general end-users only see "Windows" and obviously assume that one Windows works as the other Windows does. It will be fiendishly confusing for the general populace. If Microsoft is going to make the two different versions so very different from eachother it might have been a good idea to sell the ARM-version with a completely different brand-name.
Well, RIAA is not a music label, it is an organization that was first and foremost created to facilitate driving music labels' interests and protect them from outside harm. So yes, atleast in that regards he is entirely correct.
Unfortunately, that's how meeting is done in online situations. Some men take the position that women are going to get so many responses that they need to stand out and in doing so, take it too fast or too far.
Unfortunately yes. Then again, the people who stand out the most are often the ones who aren't trying too hard, so it's kind of the opposite of what people think. What stands the most out -- atleast to my eye -- is that a person is completely open and honest; people often try to paint this rosy picture of themselves in order to get others interested in them, but... well, perfect is simply too good to be true. Besides, people with faults are more interesting than people without any.
Sorry. I was making a joke. Sometimes it's easy to forget that it's hard to pick that up in comments. I'm a black dude, I meant no offense.
Oh, damn:D Well, tbh, where I come from you often hear rasistic slurs and insults, so I've kind of grown to expect people mean it when they say something rasistic. Atleast it shows some character from you to be able to joke about yourself:)
Haha:D Oh well, that is indeed a good theory, but alas, it's not true. My nickname is years-old, something that I came to when I was still like SOOOO proud of being non-heterosexual and all that, and the nick just kind of stuck. It isn't even entirely true, I am pansexual to be correct, though I do swing more towards women than men because of how it is easier to get on the same mental level with women.....Not that you care, I'm just feeling chatty.
You missed the word "fat", it's like a magical invisible condom surrounding the whole you, protecting you, except that it protects you from having any kind of physical contact whatsoever instead of only genital contact!
Even if they don't get picky, they get jaded due to the idiots trying anything to get a woman interested.
You're forgetting the most annoying thing: you get endless amounts of penis pictures and "u want sexx?!" - messages in your messagebox. Well gee, OF COURSE you get jaded after a while when you keep getting stupid crap like that and then you sort of get accustomed to the idea that more-or-less all guys are like that. That is nothing more than poor generalisation. I for example cannot reverse-engineer GPU and DSP drivers, especially on a platform I have no experience with and when the blob weighs in at ten megabytes. That is to say that being geek isn't some magic bullet that you can use as an excuse for telling people to sod off and do everything themselves.
So your solution to everything is "do it yourself and stop whining." Well, if you want good movies, do them yourself. If you want proper laws, get to an appropriate position and do them yourself. And so on and so forth.
Point being that it's easy to just use "do it yourself!" as an excuse to dismiss all complaints. The fact however remains that not everyone has the resources or skills needed to do everything and as such that is nothing more than a silly excuse. Of course, demanding stuff from RPi people is out-of-boundaries, but healthy criticism should be allowed.
The real question is... does he sell little children for cocaine?

No, people generally don't wish to help trolls.

Anyways, I appreciate the offer!
When the summary is written in English it's stupid to then slap a non-English word in it. "Norsk" translates to "Norwegian."
I kind of wonder if he was trolling, though.
Possibly. But then again, this being Slashdot and all it's likely he was entirely serious.
"Butter FS"?
This :P

If you're having problems with the kind of men that you're meeting, might I suggest that you start looking to meet different kinds of men?
I'm not meeting them, the discussion was about what kind of messages I -- and everyone I know of -- keep getting.
That tells me that you need to try dating black dudes. The whole plus-sized thing is less of a problem there.
That sounds terribly rasistic.
I think they met at a Combichrist gig.
Combichrist is a great band btw, people with good taste in music deserve to find eachothers! :P
