It is common knowledge that anyone who has anything legitimately constructive to say will not do it as a Coward.
This issue has been put to rest any number of times. Several readers have posted linkage to an open letter from two of the early developers of ARPAnet. In this letter they state that Gore is not altogether incorrect in his assertion that he "helped create the internet".
Please cease your ill-informed prattling, just because the media says something does not make it so. Are you going to vote for someone that everyone says is a moron?
Straight from the mouth of someone who doesn't know anything about the environmental forces at work in inner cities. Pipe down until you experience state sanctioned opression firsthand. We'll see what PHILOSOPHIES you adopt.
If you still feel self-righteous, consider the publicly disclosed racial profiling habits of American law enforcement. Maybe more minorities are arrested and jailed because they are stopped/questioned/harassed far more frequently by the police. It's hard for a member of the racial majority to be jailed if he/she never interacts with the arresting authorities.
I've heard that.25% of the American population is now in prison. 1 in 400! Most of this is attributed to the mandatory sentencing laws for drug offenders.
If this doesn't seem like a huge portion of the population, consider this... America today has more incarcerated citizens per capita that Stalinist Russia did. (Not counting those executed outright by the state.)
I see this travesty as one of the major legacies of the Reagan/Bush administration. Thanks, Ron and Nancy! If the American congress does decide to finance a Reagan memorial in Washington, I'll make an annual trip to shit on the steps!
I would disagree... thanks to the electoral college, I could vote for Kermit the Frog in my home state of Kansas and it doesn't count for crap. Kansas has consistently thrown its electoral votes to the Republicans since the 60's... my vote against Bush (nothing personal, I just feel uneasy having an idiot at the country's helm) means squat.
The best I can do is attempt to support a third party candidate with the slim hope the he/she will score enough of the popular vote to claw her/his party into next election's debates (not likely... thanks to the bipartisan debate commision). Now I wonder why voters are apathetic? Hmmm...
I guess the point I'm trying to make is that whether you vote for a candidate who can't win your state's electoral votes or whether you don't vote at all ultimately makes no difference. At worst, not voting is a vote for your state's 'default' result. And the 'default' wins anyway!
If class inequities continue to grow, the top 10% better be sure to own 10% of the nation's guns... with personal armies to match.
Does anybody have statistics on gun ownership rates in the US according to income?
I'm guessing that hordes of street thugs (and backwoods rednecks, for that matter) have the power to significantly alter American society right now.
If there is anyone who I haven't pissed off with these comments, let me know and I'll try to correct my oversight. I hope I got gun control advocates and rich folks riled up at least!
Unfortunately, they are. I'm an atheist living in Kansas (gasp!), and this sort of Bible thumping mentality is all too prevalent, not just in the midwest, but throughout the US. Just look at the hotly debated abortion rights issue which seems to be one of the backbones of American politics these days. I do think that the fundamentalist, snake-handling, speaking-in-tongues stereotype of Americans in the midwest is a bit overblown by the press, however. My neighbors haven't been lynched me yet!

That would be registered guns... don't forget the power of the Saturday night special!
