LED's are dimmable now, if you get the really good ones: http://www.ccrane.com/lights/led-light-bulbs/index .aspx - the only issue is that the array of LED's that fit into a standard light socket still only put out a minimal 60 lumens. A standard, 60 watt incandescent bulb puts out over 900 lumens. Really big difference.
The benefits of course being that the LED's don't "ever" burn out. 10,000 hours of use is a LONG time in the lifespan of bulbs.
So the right answer is to use a mix of LED's for the dimmer switched areas & have a lamp or two with CFL for the times you need really bright, focused light.
I estimated my house's requirements to replace every bulb with this kind of mix - Well over $4,000. Sigh - it's going to be a long slow process. Once LED's really come down in price and visual appeal - we'll see a real difference.
I have had the opportunity to play with the new MX1000 and yes it works with the MX700 base station - it can even be charged on the same station. It does NOT however work with the pre-MX technology. Sorry.
It also works with the notebook fastRF reciever! (of course you cannot charge with the notebook reciever)
I am going to be meeting with the logitech reps soon and will suggest they bundle the notebook USB reciever with the MX1000.
I think the laser is cool but what is even better is the thumb rest. It was the first thing I noticed when I held the mouse in my hand. The ergonomics of this mouse outstrips everything I have ever found for sheer comfort. It is a right hand mouse ONLY though.
The final nifty feature is the on-off switch on the bottom. This allows you to turn the dang thing off and throw it into your bag when taking either your laptop elsewhere or going to LAN parties.
Just got off the phone with the local Bell (Austin TX) and was informed of this toll free number to call for voluntary opt-out. 1-866-TXNOCALL. This number is for Texas only.

Why not breed a dog with a cat, and produce man's best friend who ignores him? That would be a woman!

(Amazing: only 19 minutes of my time)
