I got a kernel dump blue screen in Win2k two weeks ago. I looked down at my computer to find that the fan clip on the processor socket had broken off and the fan was hanging loose. I had just finished putting the bitch together and it had been running like a top for a few hours. One word: baked. I wasn't even getting beep codes. The worst part is that I was running VisualAge for Java at the time and it dumped my repository.
I am a huge fan of command line development when it comes to getting down and coding, however there is no CLI substitute for UML modeling. A good model and design is essential to success and maintainability on a large scale, distributed project.
So if programming is an art, and it obviously has its practical/utilitarian purposes--would the genre be neo art deco?;)
Hell throw the concept of a digital divide in to the mix and the neo existentialists will really have a field day tearing it apart as a means of expression.

For the sake of humoring you, it's not so much the media that an artist chooses that enables this [in]famous ability to pull gine--it's the artist's passion that has a tendancy to bleed in to other aspects of their life and personality that really boosts their attractiveness.

I ordered the 16mb version about a week and a half ago. It hasn't come yet.
So far as I know, there are no Linux or Macintosh drivers as of yet. I actually read about the predecessor to the q, the Thumb Drive in Mac Addict. The article stated that the Q would be coming out and would support platforms other than Windows. I guess I'll see if they kept to their promise.
You do have to admit that, given it's a 100%plug 'n' play device, it makes for one hell of a way to keep a multi platform root kit in your pocket at all times.
More spiritually fulfilling? Most likely not. But more involved, demanding and challenging--undoubtedly. I'm working on a distrubted medical case management application and I can honestly say that I'd swap it out for a great game graphics programming job in a second.
I remember reading his articles religously in DDJ--talk about some incredible stuff. They got me to the point where I wrote a real-time free directional 3d texture mapping engine in Pascal! (With a bit of inline assembly of course.) Of all people, I'd have to say that he's had the most profound effect on my coding style; what an edge.
Seeing his name on the X-Box team was a sort of blast from the past. It may even pursuade me to set aside my contempt for M$ and buy my first console since the nintendo.
Are you an idiot? That's a page counter, not a web bug. The difference is that you choose to access slashdot, whereas in the case of a web bug, you are secretly forced to visit someone's site through an unsolicited e-mail.
Speaking of portability, MacOS has always been lacking in the Java arena. Being a Java developer, I'd like to see things a little more integrated and stable. Does OS X install the JRE by default?
From now on I'm releasing all of my sites under the GPL license. It'll be great. Use of the site in any way will be testiment to the user's acceptance of the policy, and they will, under law, have to give me credit for anything they gank.
I am really, really glad to hear that I'm not the only one who experiences this problem. I was really starting to worry.

I'm a consultant and I've been brought in by another company to help salvage an ASP project they have. The project just needs to be scrapped; the other programmers have the same opinion, which doesn't help things.
I look at how much money they pay for me to be here, and I feel so bad, but I just can't bring myself to be very productive. I read Slashdot, I instant message, anything to get away from programming -- and when I do sit down to program, it's like I zone out.
You know what the sad thing is? I'm only 20 and I already have this problem; I'm terrified by that.
The Solution - What I've Discovered Anyway.
Money isn't enough. Wealth doesn't drive people like us -- it's the challenge, the thrill we get from programming. I remember when I finally "clicked" with Java; my hands just sort of "took off" on the keyboard, and I pulled an all-nighter, something I hadn't done in a long time.
You need a vested, genuine interest in what your doing. It's time for a change of scenery. Personally, if my next project (only 3 weeks to go!) is in the same boat -- I'm out of here. I'm way too young to be this drained. I'll either devote my time to my business or go back to school and become and "academic".
This is part of the reason Linux and debatably Mozilla has taken off so well. You have all of these guys devoting their free time to something they normally get paid for. Why? For the love of the game.
So are these damned new cubes not as expandable as the larger G4's or something? No fan, 1/2 sized case, practical shape, usable mouse and keyboard -- I need something to justify this monster G4 I bought just a couple of months ago.
They could at least send me a free keyboard and mouse to make up for these iMac toys they tried to pawn off on me. I suppose they'll expect me to fork out another $120 for these revolutionary input devices. It doesn't even have a scroll wheel! Bahhhhhh!

I my e-mail, tomcat, ssh, and ftp servers using YellowDog on a headless G4 450. It is by far my favorite distro (including any for the i386).

The Rage 128 in my G4 has the special studio connector in addition to the good ol' vga plug. New, but not first time released. ;)
