  1. Bad, Bad, Bad on Amazon Takes Round One in Patent Dispute · · Score: 3

This is just plain idiotic. The only way e-commerce is to take off is if it is universally adopted and considered "safe" by the unwashed masses. What Amazon is doing is *not* protecting their investment in doing busness over the web, rather, they are harming it by discouraging others from using a rather generic, but good, method of making it easier to shop online. The only way e-commerce will take off is if many companies, including competing ones, get out there and present their products. (I know their already are many out now) The threat of being sued because they might be violating someone's stupid patent on common technology would be a serious deterent to a small company attempting to market online.

  3. Re:How does this compare to Sony's dog? on CAM-Brain: Artificial Self-Teaching Brain · · Score: 1

Well, Sonys dog did learn. That was the appeal of it. it could learn to "play" it would learn how to move around and return to its charging bay when it was "hungry". similar I think to the famous MIT turtles. Just bigger and shineyer and taking less intelligence to make "go".
I also iam of the opinion that this is big on talk, short on real technical info. I mean, the mechanical overview points out to use the "shoulder" and "paw". come on.. I'm not *that* dense!

Silly people... Any Sci Fi geek worth his salt will have already played every string hes got to pull like a guitar at a salsa concert to get in the first showing at the local theater. I know I did. :) already have my seats reserved for me at the 12:01 am showing on opening day... :)
No, I haven't bought tickets, that would be against the Lucas Edict and therfore Wrong(tm).

hehe, Actually everyone in the shop will be going so I pity the poor customer that has a complaint on that day. They're bound to have 15 enraged geeks with a zero-tolorance for stupidity for the day descending upon them with the 2x4 LARTs.

  5. What the F***?? on Compaq Kills Off Online Competition · · Score: 1

This is just silly! They stopped shipping to online retailers because shops couldn't match the prices??? Its called competition boys! If you can't keep up then you drop out. Sorry but thats just a sad fact of buisness. If the online business is so "insignificant" and "they weren't even on our radar until recently" then why would they stop shipping to them?

So what have *you* done? Other then read articles (clearly labled as to what they contain and who wrote them I might add) that you don't like and therefore don't pertain to you then whine and complain like a child that you don't like them and wah, sniff, he shouldn't be here and make the bad man stop, mommy...
Look, For you and all the other idiots that complain about Katz, I said it before and I'll say it again, noone came to your 'puter and forced you to read a Katz posting or a post by Hemos about Katz or anything else on slashdot for that matter. If you don't like it, don't read it. Thats what Titles are for, they tell you whats in a posting *before* you read it. I for one, like Katz's articles, and plan on buying his book. For my own amusment or just to piss you off, I haven't decided yet... :P btw, that earlier question, the one about what have you done, etc. was retorical, I really wasn't giving you an invitation to toot your own horn about whatever it is you have done for OSS or anything else for that matter...

  8. Wrong course of attack? Maybe.... on A tiny protest makes a big noise · · Score: 1

In the EULA that is being touted so magnaminously, it states that the os should be returned to the *manufactuer* its a simple matter of the distrabution chain, if I were to sell a computer to Joe's house-o-boxen and Joe in turn, sells it to Luser-boy Smith at home, if there is a problem with the machine, Luser-boy has to take it back to Joe, I'm *not* responsable to give Joe's customer a refund. Joe bought it from me and sold it for a profit to Luser-boy. Same thing here, the OEM's bought Winbloze from M$, and in turn sold it to the customers, if the customers don't want it, its the OEM's responsablility to refund it. The OEM's are just blowing these ppl off by telling them to go to M$. Enought M$ hateing monkies decided it would be a good idea to protest and succeded in making Linux users look like a bunch of M$ hating whiners. Maybe we don't like them, but don't try to protest them on stupid stuff, beat them intellectually, its really not that tough is it?
