    The fact that you can make big money off this sort of thing is the main problem. While it was publicly-funded research, his idea was to use this in order to make money off the side from something like that.

    A John Doe is an instance of a person you are unable to identify. Its pretty much a placeholder.

    Like if you're going to sue 100 people for downloading your show - and you only have their IPs, you issue a lawsuit against 100 John Does, then fill out the information when you subpoena it.

    Technically 'reverse engineering' works out to be 'publishing information from a device you own'. Decompiling code to see how my competitors are doing it is also illegal.

    So yeah it could still be pretty illegal - not really related to this case - but even if you 'gloss it over' in that manner, it still works out the same.

    Paid less than the penalty for copyright infringment in the USA. May have to do with the C word though.

    I'm pretty sure they made more than 2.5 million profit...

    You see if you steal songs and hold 50 million in reserve, then you're expecting to make more profits than those 50 million, otherwise what's the point of stealing the songs?

    I'm pretty sure if the greatest leader in the history of mankind, a person who has found the solution to all the world's problems - went for an election as an independant candidate he would still not get any amount of votes worth reporting.

    Happens everywhere you understand. Red States/Blue States.. you think they care whether their leader is a baby-eating psycho or a good human being? Nope.

    I hate it when people say "Anonymous" are doing X. It makes it sound like its some sort of static group with a single leader who determines what the group will be up to this week.

    Its never as simple as this. Anonymous are a bunch of individuals who decide whether doing X 'for the lulz' is a good idea or not. Who their leader is changes and doesn't really matter as much as in other cases.

    Its pretty much a case of a totally distributed system which forms links on the fly.

    The person who decided on the DDOS, and the people who followed him/her could be totally different from the people who will be out protesting.

    I'm just making fun of how capitalism says that it keeps a free-market going, but in most of the vital things it always collapses into a corporocracy.

    I was making fun of the typical "Don't get the government involved - capitalism to the rescue!" argument which always comes up when we discuss the internet or net neutrality.

    Free markets are destined to die without government intervention.

    Generally communist countries don't let you open factories there to export cheap goods. In fact -
