I don't think traditional eduction is going anywhere soon. There are two types of people in this world, the self learners and those that require a structured if not forced educational environment.
Military members are not civilians, a superior officer tells you to do something you just plain do it, no questions asked. The general military occupations do not have the clearance and or need to know to access this information.
When I was in the military if someone told me not to look I damn sure would not have. Service members are held to the UCMJ, when someone asks you to jump the only question you may have is how high.
I don't know about the world economy but it would surely hose up the US one. We use cheap fuel to compete in the global markets. Imposing a carbon tax or strict fuel usage policy is not in our best interest. It is not in out best intrested because other countries are not stupid enough to hobble their industries by imposing the same rules. We already have a massive trade deficit with china this would only add fuel to that fire.
I never said their process is safe but I can tell you for a fact that they do a comprehensive check on each and every app. Will it catch everything? Nope in fact I am pretty certain I could get quite a bit of stuff past the approval process. It may however be very difficult to do so without getting found out or tracked down for doing something like that.
Developers bitch about the app store approval process but this is exactly why it exists. Yes it would be nice to sever ties with the app store but apple is doing a fairly good job of protecting it's ecosystem.
Yea and if you pay a camera ticket in AZ you are a complete idiot. A ticket mailed to you is not properly served, if you read the fine print on the ticket it says that by signing you wave this right.
You failed to mention that in Arizona the ticket is not enforceable since a proper ticket has to be hand delivered. Still idiots pay them but the public was catching and no one was paying the fines, so they just shut them down.
Had they access to the source code to the shit they where actually running perhaps they would have upgraded the OS long ago. Most of us have encountered crap like this, oh the company that sold it to us went under 10 yrs ago so we cannot upgrade, make it keep working.
If I happened to run across a vulnerability tomorrow I might be inclined and would likely publish it that very day. Microsoft assumes I care for the well being of them and their customers when really I don't. I know this is aimed more at security researchers but then again they may very well feel the same way.
smoking while driving? What do you have a hepa filter on your car's ventilation system? I guess you never thought about the fact that the guy's tailpipe in front of you is putting out 1000 times the nasties that the dude sitting in his car smoking in front of you is putting into the environment.
Why do you feel like it is your duty to worry about someone else's quality of life? I personally do not want you to worry about my quality of life. I am a smoker and rather much happy with my decision, and don't get me started about the increased cost in health care. The state I am from squandered their tobacco settlement, was it to help smokers? No little if any went towards that. In fact I told my wife when I die sue the hell out of the state for not doing it's job in using the settlement to help me quit. Do you have any idea how much money I pay a year in additional taxes and medical insurance because I smoke? So where does that additional money go?
Yes, you pretty much summed up my experience as a govt worker. My situation was not exactly as you described but I have little doubt what you written is exactly true. If you are a worker just looking for a job then it is a great place to be. If you are however looking for a job that is career enhancing and mind stimulating, run like hell.
The culture (wage, work environment, hiring, management) is all wrong to attract true talent. I would really have to be hard pressed for work to consider a government job.
I think it has more do with finding IT workers willing to work in the field then it does a actual shortage. I can only speak for myself but I just don't see many positive aspects to working in health IT.
I don't know about the design flaws in the new iphone because I do not own one. However the IOS4 upgrade made my 3g a sluggish piece of crap. I have a strong suspicion it is related to adding multitasking. I could have cared less about multitasking I knew it was a recipe for disaster and I was certainly not proved wrong. Besides the sluggishness there are a ton of other bugs with it, mail sync with gmail is horribly broken etc. I have not confirmed but it also seems to leak resources.

The manufacturing industry sold it's soul to China and now we are supposed to feel bad for them?

Paying grad students to glue fly eyeballs to a sheet doesn't seem to be the most efficient process.
Why not, what else are they good for?
USPS will never recover and or be profitable, their labor and benefits costs are way too high.
Had they access to the source code to the shit they where actually running perhaps they would have upgraded the OS long ago. Most of us have encountered crap like this, oh the company that sold it to us went under 10 yrs ago so we cannot upgrade, make it keep working.
It is obvious you have never worked in a govt job.

Heaven forbid you light a cigarette though, you would be burned at the stake.

No my phone is not and has never been jailbroken.
They could but it would compete with their Linux offering thus adding no value vs development and maintenance costs.
MS is completely 100% irrelevant to me I could care less what they do.
Look it is obvious, Oracle is putting a nail in anything having to do with Solaris. Get over it, move on and start migrating.
