Your employer has every right to go through their equipment if they suspect you of serious misconduct. And twitter feed are public information so there is zero protection there.
If you are suspected of stealing code (trade secrets in this case) its obvious that you would want to size evidence without pre warning the "alleged" criminal a chance to delete the evidence. Given what the company was developing (CNI related software) he's lucky they didn't hit him with the official secrets act or the equivalent.
The BT security directorate will obviously administer the test at Martelsham/BT Labs/Disatral Park - in the time honored suffolk fashion by throwing him into the lake at the labs if he sinks we can trust him if not hes a witch:-)

Why would they do that don't spin doctors do this down the pub face to face or via an anonymous tip from a "friend" or "close personal friends say"
