I was unemployed at around 38 and could not get work in the small business field that I had been working for many years.
I switched gears and entered the corporate contract gig arena. Same field, technically, but completely different software, hardware, teams, procedures, etc. While it was very difficult to land that first gig, it was all downhill after that. I didn't have too much trouble adapting despite being around 40.
It's just a matter of how much you are willing to put in to it. I actually found that the shake up made me sharper and more productive.
I wonder if they plan on proxying DNS requests leaving the country? If so, the only workaround would be to use encryption and/or DNSSEC and a DNS server outside the country... possibly on a non-standard port in case they block 53.
FB is far from a monopoly and they are not a charity. They are a for-profit company and they can run their company any way that they see fit. If you don't like it, vote with your feet and uninstall the app, delete your account and walk away. If enough people do this, then FB will not have the power it has now. FB is only as powerful as your make it.
If all you need are the basics (no apps), want a good quality camera and have a desire to be different than everyone else then Windows Phone isn't a bad alternative.
I am still rocking the Lumia 920 with Windows 10 on it. It's a stylish phone and it does all I need.
Office 365 and Azure along with their big data analytics are pretty innovative. Well, they are at least making them a lot of money. They are bigger than Google's cloud right now. Microsoft certainly has a lot more customers.
Yeah I get that. But what if, for example, Russia decides to say: All Internet traffic will flow through government owned pipes and no more non-encrypted traffic will flow over our border routers from foreign sources?
Sure, disruptive even devastating to the status quo, but think about the benefits from a government perspective.
Now they can absolutely ensure that no packets coming in to the country are malicious because they can inspect everything. They can put the kibosh on illegal file sharing or whatever the hell they want to do.
This is what I am getting at. Complete restriction. Effectively a segmented Internet... Not the free-flowing-lovey-dovey Internet we know right now./puts on his tin foil hat
What I mean is a completely separate system that is incompatible with TCP/IP. A new protocol and address space, completely redesigned with gateway routers that know how to translate between the two networks.
Isn't that a good thing though? If you didn't by the game on Steam, why should you be able to contribute to the rating on Steam? Amazon does the same thing, it's called a verified purchase. To allow anything else is opening up the system for abuse.
That's fine. If we continue to act like we own the Internet then other countries will just make their own, incompatible versions. We will then be allowed to interact (trade packets) via trade agreements and treaties which will be facilitated by controlled interconnects.
I kind of feel like this is the way things will go eventually anyway. Each country having its own enclave with firewalls and filters between the networks.
This actually would solve some problems like attacks or illegal goods/services (file sharing?) originating from other countries.
I can see a lot of reasons why ours and other governments would be for this. Which is why I think it will happen.
Wow. I think you might be missing the point of reviews.... which are to help others by either describing your use cases or why the product/service did or didn't live up to your expectations. Others find these things useful. You have probably found reviews useful yourself when making a purchasing decision...
You probably have a shotgun trap attached to your front door....
The problem is that the person has to enter those nasty words in to their profile. Now, not only do they have to think and type these offensive words, they will have to see them whenever they view their profile!
When I leave the house, my "must have" items are: ID, CC, keys and cash. That's it. I will sometimes carry my phone with me if I want to listen to music, but the phone goes in the backpack and I don't take it out or look at it until I back at home, then it goes back on the charger.

True, but in this case, it was manually removed by a FB drone after being flagged by another user as inappropriate.
Which is fine. The drone, just like the algorithm, is just doing their pre-programmed job.
I wonder. If she had an issue with the photo and requested that FB take it down, would that be a different story?
This is hypothetical, of course.
Don't use FB... problems solved.

Exactly.
Telemetry is the new model.
And yet this is ok because it's Google.
Windows 10 includes telemetry but that is spyware!

But you didn't buy it from the Steam store.... right?
You realize that Donald Trump is older than Hillary Clinton and that women tend to live longer than men right?
Not saying that health isn't a concern, but I would be more worried about the statistical likelihood of Trump dying of old age more than Clinton.
They will be called eyePods

Perhaps related to Jeff K?
I finally have the appropriate term for those times that I get a busy signal! Denial of service attack!

That sounds like investor/share holder FUD...
Twitter is fine. They just aren't growing at some exponential rate that is demanded by those... people.
One more reason for you to unlock your phone and hand it to a police officer.... that's totally what I want...
