The good news is that with a script blocker you also effectively cut out the malicious ads while still allowing the non-exectable ads to come through. This, to me, is a good compromise as it still allows for ad supported content from ad vendors that don't use obnoxious/dangerous ads.
No need for an ad blocker unless your actual motivation is just to not see ads period
You take a non-popular stance here but I agree with you. Of course, not even the BBC radio play had Tom Bombadil and that is about as faithful an adaptation as I have ever encountered.
When these movies first came out, I didn't see them in the theater.
These were childhood favorite books that really sparked my imagination.
The thing I hate about movies made from books is not so much the technical inaccuracies, it's that my memory gets overwritten with the face of whatever actor they decided to plunk in.
I did finally see the movies long after they had been released and I was actually bored watching them. I guess another nice thing about a book is that you don't have to do the whole thing at once.. only when you are really in a place to enjoy it. I think that people watch movies just to fill time or to keep from having to talk to people for a little while.
I don't own a car and bike a lot in the summer to get around.
The thing with a bike is you have much greater visibility than people in cars and can break much more quickly than cars can.
As long as the intersection is clear, I will blow through the stop sign. I am only risking myself by doing this. I will never injure someone in a car if I run a stop sign or red light.
If the intersection is busy at all, I will wait for the signals just as I would in a car.
What drives me crazy are cyclists who will use the sidewalk when there is a bike lane.
It is eerie how similar the Trump rise to the head of the ticket is to the Obama rise. From Iowa in 2008 nobody expected Obama to win anything, then, every state after that where Obama won it was an "upset" to the establishment.
I see the same exact thing happening again.
People want change and they love an underdog.
The more people tell them they are wrong, the more it cements their position.
Yeah the audio and connection quality of mobile phones are horrendous and have never gotten any better.
We continue to push the technology yet the quality remains the same at best and is often way worse as new components are added (bluetooth/hands free) and phones get smaller.
I would say that about 90% of the calls on every cell phone I have ever had, I have said "what did you say?" at least once during the conversation. Roughly 30% of calls are dropped or are so bad (echo or volume or no audio on one or both legs) that the call must be reestablished. And even the "good" calls have terrible audio quality.
I remember the first time I used an HD audio codec voip phone... It made me realize how bad normal call quality really is.
Yeah, I mean, if it was me I would leave it concealed and only use it if people were being really bad. But only long enough to disrupt the call. Then repeat if they dial back.
People are used to dropped calls on their mobile phones so just repeat like 3 times and they will give up and try their call when they are off the subway.
Although, it would only have increased the time until he was caught if he used it regularly.
I recall hearing a story about a guy who had one of these devices in his car and kept it on all the time, creating a bubble as he drove down the freeway.
They caught him because a pattern could be established (he took the same route at the same time every day).
I was about to make the exact same post but you beat me to it.
I get annoyed on the train as well. Usually though, most people are pretty reserved in the morning and it is nice and quiet. Any other time I have to listen to music or netcasts to block out the inane jabber.
The battery part is true. I am really impressed with iDevice standby battery life.
But the static image thing.. if that were true that all you are seeing in the task list is basically nothing more than the shortcuts to your recently running apps then that would mean that every time you switch to another app the first app would close. I know this is not the case because app state is preserved when you switch back to the app, even days later.
In addition, sometimes when switching back to an app, it won't function properly. Closing (by flicking up on the task list) and re-opening the app will fix it. So clearly the app's state was screwed up somehow.
Please correct my ignorance, I am not a big Apple user (only have the one work issued iPad).
This is exactly the experience I have had since the XP days when they introduced the activation component.
I have never run into a case where I wasn't able to activate a copy of windows that I had a key for. Even if that key had already been used 20 or more times.
After the very first time or maybe second, you will no longer be able to activate over the web. You have to use the telephone.. but the process is very straight forward. They used to transfer you to a real person but these days the telephone process is completely automated and will only dump you onto a real person in some rare cases like TS user CAL re-activations.
Glad they are giving in to the pressure.
I think zoos, in general, are terrible places. I remember as a child going to the zoo and feeling really bad for the animals.
It's along the same lines as taking a tour of a prison to see the captives.

Cable has always had better speed
This is changing with DSL speeds getting faster and faster. Which is why the cable companies are upping their speeds.
My apt building has CentryLink fiber running to it and they use the existing telephone infrastructure and g.fast DSL to get the 1GB link to the units.
As a matter of fact, the cable provider in my building still uses DOCSIS 1.1 and has a 10Mb cap so, in my case, DSL is MUCH faster.
This one actually looks like a legit grievance on AT&T's part

Is a class tunnel some means by which one travels between socioeconomic enclaves?

Well here's a simple solution: Ask your friends to chip in for the wine *wink* *wink*
I am thinking the same thing.
Something tells me that if this does make it to market, it will be with some pretty crazy restrictions.
Perhaps you will need a special device and agree to some invasive snooping or something.
$50 is completely unrealistic for me as well.
The last movie I saw in the theater was a Rifftrax live event about a year ago and even that was less than $50 for 2 people.
Clearly I am not the target market here.
Not saying it is a bad idea though. The MPAA could make a killing off of this if it takes off.
If I have to plug a device into the network in order to have beer fetched and poured into my mouth then SO BE IT!
IoT devices may end up creating vulnerabilities in your otherwise secure network?
Say it ain't so...

Isn't the RNC considering giving the nomination to one of the other candidates if Trump "wins" the popular vote?
This is how I feel as well.

Hell, if you are willing to live in Fargo ND (quite literally the middle of nowhere) there are plenty of tech jobs available there.
Seems that stable midwest locations that are nice and frosty are ideal for data centers.
Yeah, especially if you use the "cobbler's children" model to run your business.
You made my day!

Don't you know that police don't have to obey the law? I thought everyone knew this. Why else does one become a cop?

Actually, it depends on how loud the chat is.
I get annoyed at loud conversation all the time. Of course, I hate people so...
This is what I was thinking as well.
