    How many times have we seen this "post-PC" bullshit come and go? I've been around long enough to have seen it come and go several times.

    Do you remember during the Microsoft anti-trust trial when journalists were saying the trial was irrelevant because new technologies were already making PC irrelevant and would soon put Microsoft out of business? Internet appliances, handheld devices, etc.

    Just ignore it. It's crap.

    If those military votes were counted, Bush would have been the clear winner in Florida. As I recall, of the 15,000 votes thrown out, 11,000 were for Bush.

    This is a flat-out LIE.

    All military votes were counted INCLUDING VOTES CAST AFTER ELECTION DAY!

    There were about 20,000 ballots thrown out IN PALM BEACH - where the voters tried to vote for Gore.

    This has happened to me three times. Two at one domain my business owned and once at my personal domain.

    First you get millions of bounces. Then you get hundreds of angry replies. "TAKE ME OFF THIS LIST!" (Which only ensures that they get put ON more lists because it proves that it is a valid e-mail and that they OPEN AND READ their e-mail!)

    AND you get the orders! You don't get that many, compared to how many e-mails were sent, but since the RECEIVER pays to receive the stuff, who cares?

    So your ideology is that any time someone is willing to work for less, the job should go to that person.

    I got news for you - we're in a world with HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF UNEMPLOYED PEOPLE. So what you are advocating won't work. It will lead to everyone in the world with a job getting just enough to eat, and the rest starving.

    It is a "spiral to the bottom." Mexico is losing jobs to Cambodia, and Cambodia is losing jobs to China.

    It ain't up to you - it's up to the mutual funds that hold the company's stock - and who ALSO manage the company's 401K so they vote however the CEO tell s them to vote.

    Right, the extra cost for a computer with Windows is $16. Right. Even though the manufacturer pays at least $80. It should cost $5-20, which means we should all be getting back at least $60.

    And Excel, at $26! The program costs about $200 more than it would if Microsoft did't have a monopoly!

    And this applies only in California!

    I guess it's the best anyone could have hoped for after Bush got elected and let Microsoft off the hook for something they had already been found guilty of.

    You have no idea how many people I know who are relocating. My wife and I are also looking to relocate.

    I wonder if you understand what is about to happen to Omaha because of your post. Did you ever read or see The Grapes of Wrath? The part where all the people in Oklahoma are packing up their families and belongings into trucks because they heard that there were some jobs picking vegetables in California? You're about to get a few thousand hungry engineers arriving in Omaha.

    One thing is for sure. No one in Omaha is posting employment ads.

    You have a masters in physics, and you get a job with a defense contractor. Fine. We can all see how you actually found a job. There's a fit there, and military spending is way up. But to call ebngineers whiners because THEY aren't educated to design nuclear weapons is going overboard. It takes a few years to get a masters in physics.

    WHERE are these imaginary jobs? The clssified ads survey shows that now we have the fewest job listings since the depression. That's nationwide.

    Portland has the highest unemployment in the country. I know engineers in Portland who have been looking for a year. Who are you kidding? All the tech companies in Portland dumped employees, and none are hiring!

    Last week the survey of classified ads in newspapers reported that we're seeing the fewest help wanted ads since the depression.

    I challenge any of those posting that people should go get a job, or that if they have good skills they can find a job, etc., to please post their phone number at work, so people can call and ask them who at their company to contact.

    Companies posting job offers in Silicon Valley are getting THOUSANDS of resumes. So give people a break about finding a job, please. It ain't gonna happen. Even Starbucks isn't hiring.

    In fact, if you live in a town where a Starbucks is hiring, please post that.

    Dude,

    What does the "law of supply and demand" mean when you have more workers than jobs? It means that people in the US will starve.

    The alternative is to MANAGE the situation, to guarantee that the people getting the jobs make enough to buy things so that the economy of the world can grow instead of shrink as a result of the jobs moving.

    Dode, you're talking about a country with a President that let's corporations open a PO Box in the Bahamas and then says they don't have to pay taxes in America anymore. Guess who is left with the tax bill.

    And in that environment you're surprised about how the corporations are behaving?
