    GNOME3 and its developers can now die, they serve no purpose and the useful work has been taken up by competent people.

    Like Gnome3 was only gnome-shell. The Cinnamon project only forked a couple (well, now three with Nemo) of projects, I doubt they would have the manpower to maintain the whole of Gnome.

    Then the solution is to copy the vendor. Make the Linux look & feel like the XP/Seven OS that everyone knows and feels comfortable with, so the transition is near-painless.

    Isn't that what the Lindows folks tried to do a few years back?
    Did you see how well it did go for them?

    Have you used the AUR? I find compiling on Arch is way easier than it was on Ubuntu.

    The point is you usually don't have to recompile things on Ubuntu, given the prevalence of PPA repositories.

    They won't. And I assume you're using the nvidia binary driver. In that case, the only known solution is installing a patched version of libvdpau or disabling the hardware accelerated rendering.

    Particularly in one of the few remaining countries in Western Europe with a strong Catholic presence. It used to be that it was very common, maybe practically requisite, for Joseph and Marie (Giuseppe/Maria) to be used as middle names for Catholics. A politician in Berlusconi's right wing government would be more likely to be from that tradition.

    I can assure you PM Berlusconi didn't pick her for her piety.:-)

    What I said above is the conclusion I've come to after trying LM11: Natty without Unity but all the other defects.

    Anyway I'd love to have an alternative like that, but let's not forget LinuxMint is pretty much a one-man-show. With gnome 2.x support dropping, is the guy actually going to write something that will mimick metacity on gnome 3 as he promised?

    I was under the impression that Linux Mint was merely Ubuntu with a green theme (and a few codecs installed by default).
