    Could be used to turn the Playstation into a low cost home PC/internet appliance. All it would need would be a CDROM, hard drive.

    I can see this as being the basis for the next big leap forawrd in computer technologies:

    Marketing Systems (as opposed to Operating Systems)

    Marketing Systems are systems designed purely for marketing purposes, with operations being hardly even secondary considerations.

    Where the have you been sticking your head? This is exactly what all the Personalization hype is about.

    The problem is that the access to "Our internet" will again be restricted. Groups of content providers will be able to pressure ISPs in all sorts of ways. You lament that fewer people will be able to put up useful home pages. If this goes through, corporate interests will be able to determine what the majority of users can publish and what they can see!

    A more technically detailed article can be found at Scientific American. This is not really new news.

    If we hit the limits of current technology in 5 years, and the new stuff is 10 years away, we'll just have drives getting bulkier for 5 years. No big deal.

    One thing that major label artists could do would be to demand that they retain the ability to publish themselves online, with a certain royalty going back to the record company.

    Whatever happened to those stores that were supposed to burn custom mix CDs for you?
