NOTHING is "inevitable" -- unless people just sit around on their asses and do nothing to prevent something undesirable from transpiring, that is. How about "dealing with it" by preventing it?
2. Regulation of Internet Access is Good. We need Open Competition between providers. We don't need restrictions on this. We also need guarantees that when we order DSL or Cable Modems, they'll be installed in 10 working days (or less), and that outages are fixed promptly.
No argument there...
Beyond that, the government should butt out.
... or there...
[note - I own shares in AT&T, Cisco, AOL, Cox, a bunch more - and I'm hurting my profit picture by saying this]
There are few things *less* offensive than people who PREEMPTIVELY attempt to invalidate any opinions different from their own by tagging them as being "whining" or evidence of lack of "a life" while simultaneously boasting about how much stock they own. Does the term "nouveau riche" mean anything to you... and no, for those too naive to realize it, it is *not* a compliment...
3. Taxation is still inevitable. Stop whining.
It is still true that nothing is inevitable. Your repetitive statement here is as irksome as it is concise, and is not redeemed one whit from the former by dint of the latter. Your attempt to sound authoritative thereby would be humorous if it were not so reminiscent of the worthless dolt known in the world of men as Rush Limbaugh.
4. Censorship is Bad.
And totally counterproductive to freedom and against all reasonable rights of the individual. No argument there. So why are you attempting to censor any/all opinion that the internet does NOT need to be taxed, should not be taxed, will not be taxed, or that we ought to do something to keep it from being taxed? There are other forms of censorship besides legislative ones, y'know...
Information to permit consumers to know which spam or web site is X-rated or has violent images is ok, but not if Congress decides which is which.
Government need not be involved at all, really. This is another area which lends itself excellently to the marketplace. Those who care about such things can purchase a Net Nanny and those who don't will not have it foisted upon them. Lawsuits (or the threat thereof) will keep the free enterprising "raters" primarily honest.
Multiple rating services should be permitted, so consumers can choose which (if any) they wish to use.
Or whether to use one at all, add this to that equation. Also the right to be reasonably exempt from unfair ratings -- if I have a website with intelligent discussion of alternative spiritualities or academic presentations of tribal ritual, I don't want some trailerpark schmuck out to make a netnanny buck schlepping My site under "satanism" out of ignorance.
And maybe right-wing loonies.
Yes, we definitely need a site rating to warn about right-wing loonies!!!;-)
5. The Internet Will Be Taxed. Get a life...
Oh please, why don't you? Knock off the crap already. Not wanting the internet to be taxed, not believing such is "inevitable", and not kowtowing to people like you who seem to wish it was, does not constitute "whining" or lacking "a life". Au contraire... sounds like you are the one whining and needing to get a life if you can't deal with the fact that there are those who do not want the internet to be taxed and who intend to stand in the way of any moves in that direction.
Besides, don't you know that phrases like "stop whining" and "get a life" do not actually accomplish their intended aims? They are intended to squelch the person you aim them at, but in reality all they do is elicit a reaction of "fuck you shithead; who died and left YOU God???" and an even stronger determination to go on with whatever prompted the comment in the first place. And that's just from people who have a life and don't typically whine. Not sure what they'd elicit from genuine whiners who don't have a life, though I suspect *that* type never really *hears* the phrases because they are usually the ones *issuing* them.
6. The only other regulation we need is guaranteed low-cost access for anyone, like basic telephone service.
All that stock and you think access prices are too high?
Now I've heard it all. *LOL*
If I can afford it without whining, surely you can, too, Mr. Moneybags. Now quit whining and get a life. And pay your frickin' internet bill; it's deadbeats like you who are gonna wind up getting us all taxed to the gills. (*kidding*)
No matter where they live in rural or remote areas.
Access is plenty available if you know where to look for it, even for rural folks. Look at all the freebies out there, the free internet access companies. I could name at least six or seven right off the top of My head and the list is growing all the time. Many of them have dial-in numbers accessible to rural areas, or to the cities nearest the rural areas. Sure, I'd like to see DSL spread its wings a little, and come down in price a bit, but since My spouse works for a company that will subsidize it for us, I suppose I can't complain too much.
Tax the high-speed access people for this. Yeah, it's taxes. Deal with it.
No, tax everyone who cannot afford DSL or ISDN for putting such a drain on the telephone resources. Tax their telephone bills, not their internet bills. *LOL*
What everyone should do is start turning in everyone who is creating the problems -- all the kids that are hassling the other kids, the bullies, the ones that harrass others, the ones that namecall and throw stuff and are constantly haranguing others, etc. Turn them in as exhibiting dangerous aggressive behavior -- in other words, turn the tide by turning in everyone who is likely to abuse the situation by just randomly turning in everyone who is "different" -- pretty soon the idiots trying to run the stupid pathetic thing will be so swamped and confused they won't know whasssup -- and all the fascist conformist types will be the ones targeted as "dangerous" and ready to snap -- as they deserve since they are the ones hassling all the *INTERESTING* people every day!!!
DO WHAT THOU WILT SHALL BE THE WHOLE OF THE LAW: This is the most ridiculous, ludicrous, fucked up shit I have heard in years. OF COURSE it is going to be nothing but a free-for-all with all the same fucking loser conformist/fascist types trying to fuck up life in yet ANOTHER fashion for anyone/everyone who is unique, individual, different, creative, follows another drummer, doesn't swim with the lemming crowd, doesn't baaa with the herd of sheeple, etc. etc. ad nauseum. As if they didn't try to make life fucked up for us enough as it is. But shit, we had the power, guts, determination, magick and ingenuity to invent the Internet, to truly render the earth a global village, and to redefine what "WORK" means in the "new millenium". So surely we can figure out a way to STOP these worthless twits... can't we? Whaddya say, people? What shall we do to overthrow them before they even ascend, to stomp them down before they even rear their pathetic virus-infested heads, to bring them to a screeching, grinding halt before they even cross the starting line??? IDEAS???? ANYONE??? Love is the law, love under will, Shedona (Babalon)
