    Shouldn't it then contain a correct release date?

    "Last Updated" means the last time a document was changed. You can't equate Last Updated with Release Date. They are two totally different things.

    If MS changed the information in the document, would you want the Last Updated date to be when they updated it, or the original release date of the information?

    The article says nothing about someone stopping MP3s from moving around on the internet. It is all about local admins having control over the traffic ON THEIR OWN NETWORK.

    If a university or business doesn't want people using up bandwidth for Napster, it is their right.

    Shouldn't the main goal here be to make the unnamed software house adhere to the GPL, rather than just suing somebody solely for the sake of testing the GPL in court?

    If GPL doesn't stand up in court, shouldn't we find this out sooner rather than later?

    Likely what he meant is that the runtime will be OS independent...

    That means it will run on Win95, Win98, WinNT, Win2000, WinCE, and WinMe. That's OS independent to me :)

    Yes, you can have strategies, at least assuming that your opponent is not a pure RNG (in which case the only correct strategy is to be RNG yourself.)

    Actually, any strategy is correct against a pure RNG strategy. I could choose Rock everytime and expect the same result.

    The best thing about an RNG strategy is that you will score average against ANY strategy.

    But as a general rule, I find animated images to be annoying and repulsive. They tend to be distracting, and draw my attention away from the real reason I have the web page on my screen - the content.

    If you replace "animated images" with "animated ads" I'd agree with you 100%. Most people like animated images if it is part of the content.

    A hammer is more efficient than a screwdriver when nailing a nail. A stupid carpenter tries to pound a screw in with his hammer. Smart carpenters know to choose the right tool for the right job.

    Same goes for computers. Efficient users know when to use a GUI and when a CLI is better. You limit yourself if you only use one or the other.

    Maybe GAP clothing could be free... ...if it displayed flashing banner ads, was targeted for the viewers, kept track of impressions and click-thrus, and tracked the movements of viewers from place to place.

    On second thought, I'd rather pay to have plain old logos sewn on my shirt.

    Windows doesn't differentiate between "view" and "execute".

    Should it? When you double-click on a file, Windows tells the registered application to open this file. Windows tells Notepad to open .txt files. Windows tells WScript to open .vbs files. Windows has no idea as to what the application is planning to do with the file (execute or view).

    Maybe the answer is to remove the registered filetype mappings. If you want to open a file, you must open it from within an application. Clicking on a file does nothing.

    As I said, Windows makes it easy for a stupid person to shoot themselves in the foot. It's still mainly a user problem.

    What is the weakness of Windows? Windows makes it easy for stupid people to shoot themselves in the foot.

    If Linux was just as popular with stupid users as Windows is, something similar could happen with Perl scripts. If the user runs something dangerous without knowing what it is, the user is to blame, not the OS.

    Carmack admitted than "Paul has certainly done things in the past that could be grounds for dismissal". The ultimatium, which apparently Paul was part of, plus his past history, should give a company legal ground for termination.

    I wish Paul was still with Id, I'd love to see his models for Doom III.

    I've heard rumors that Nvidia may be working on a GF2 PCI board. Too many people are buying on-board AGP graphics and need something to upgrade to.

    Outlook doesn't execute arbitrary code embedded in attachments. The user has to double-click on the attachment to activate the virus. The same thing could happen on Linux if someone executed a Perl attachment. But most Linux users are smart enough not to run abitrary attachments.

    If Outlook is to be faulted, it is because attachments are easy to activate by the user.

    Where are all the apache affecting viruses?

    How many computers run Apache? Yeah, most webservers do, but there are hundreds of other computers for every webserver. Therefore Apache is on less than 1% of all computers out there. That's why viruses don't target Apache.

    If Linux (or any one version of Unix) had 80% market share and ran an Office suite with 80% market share, Linux would have a similar virus problem.

    Virus writers want them to spread. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to target 80% of the computers instead of 4%.
