  1. Re:Skynet... on IBM Shows Off Brain-Inspired Microchips · · Score: 1

I think we do know what makes some evil. It comes down to his/her programing, not programing that's installed before they are born but programing it receives through eyes, ears, feel and interactions with the environment during its life. If you look at all the people in prison i think you'll find some pretty horrific pasts; majority are from poor family, lots of missing or abusive parents, limited options for a future (although that covers the majority there are endless ways to screw up a kid). Now if your looking to simulate a brain as it is then you could run into these problems thankfully who ever has the brains to create such a brain probably wont use the same parenting methods or lifestyle that the criminals had received. The other issue and path to skynet is an imperfection of miscalculation within the brain like a mental illness, but when you have such control over the state of each bit you should be able to find out where you going wrong and where your not simulating the normal brain properly. If you do create an insane AI and can't figure out why, you should turn it off and go back to your design (if you really wanted to keep them alive it would be easy to put them in their own virtual world with no connection to the outside world). However this type of complete simulation AI is hardly the aim of the corporations and governments funding them, they want an ai that only thinks about driving a particular car and is installed via a port, or a computer that only identifies different weapons and lethality in a war zone (always watching, never sleeping, no need for a vacation or raise).

You can buy a smartphone for $80 now, how hard would it be to set the pigeon hole account as a no data cost service (like how some Telco's provide free Facebook); They made us without digital TV's spend about that on a set top box so they can turn off the analogue signal. When the cost of communicating with the public drops to practically nothing a lot of things will become possible and could even feed information back to the government (surveys, public opinion, votes).

I'm pretty sure Russia made many advancements while under communism. The people that do invent techniques and products are rewarded just not with stupid monopolies (and they are rewarding the engineers, coders and inverters not some big faceless company). Then those ideas are free to be used by others, increasing the amount of innovation. Don't get me wrong i know communism has a lot of flaws but in many ways its better than the supposedly free market that is heavily heavily controlled.

Its not as straight forward as go to this x site and read, but if you go to Google news and type in stuff that is inevitable, you can get a good idea what each manufacture is up to. It takes a bit of guess and work and substitution, for example you know the latest smartphones now are dual core 1 ghz so if you want a next gen phone a Google news search for dual core 1.2ghz up to X ghz, smartphone, os of choice; or maybe quad core phones and it will bring back many results.

Its also helpful to search the manufactures of the parts involved in the phones. For example Nvidia have a road map for their next 4 socs (system on a chip), by looking up the next product code name you can substitute that in front of 'smartphone', and Google news will bring back information from all kinds of sources on all kinds of phones. This can be repeated for Qualcomm, Intel, Texas instruments, Samsung or screen and communication manufactures.

To be honest i don't think this will have much of an effect on police behavior not because it shouldn't (and it should) but because the problem lies so deep in the police (possibly in human psyche, think Stanford prison experiment), and would be quite hard to change. As far as some guy taking shots at them is concerned, I'm leaning to the idea that adrenaline hyped cops with a finger on the trigger got scared, opened fire, and ended up hitting one of their own with a ricochet (how else would a bullet not go through a radio), but then again i am a little bias about police brutality and their disregard for the truth (due to personal experience).
