I never said it was going to be easy (otherwise everyone would already be doing it), but if you want it to be more popular, useful (for more than yoda figurines) and pay for itself quicker, then doubling the build area is going to go a lot further than halving the price. I'm quite interested in le big rep http://reprap.org/wiki/LeBigRep just waiting on the guy to do a bit more of the leg work.
Pcb printer would be awesome even if you had to do a little soldering.
I know you can join parts together but you lose some of the advantages of 3d printing; that being ease of construction for both the finished product and in the design, also it'll make it heavier (or weaker) because the internal structure cant be as elegant. I'm happy paying $2000 (or higher) but give me one that can print 1x1x1 meters (or higher).
You can build a reprap for a couple of hundred dollars, but how many sets of curtain rings and crappy iphone cases do you need per year? I think we need bigger build areas, that will open more bigger options (which usually cost more and have higher shipping costs). If you can print coat hangers, coffee tables, rc planes, and a replacement stand for my floor fan I'm going to be a lot more interested (yes i know you can print bigger things by doing it in parts, but it's a lot more hassle and not as strong).
Yeah because there are all those reports from western peoples families, that their loved ones were abducting by the Chinese government while they were on a holiday in china. On the other hand there have been many stories of people being stopped entry to America because of something they wrote on the internet (no abductions that i know about at the airport, but i wouldn't like to be snowden or assange walking around over there) and if America finds you in a country they don't like (and are alot bigger than) they can throw you in guantanamo bay.
How exactly are they going to do that? Even if they managed to invade my country, finding me in that war zone wont be all that easy. But what the hell, lets find out what happens. CHINA GOVERNMENT EATS BABIES. How long do you think it's going to take to arrest me?
Probably because he hasn't worked for them (but plenty of people are more than happy to tell you it's widespread and unstoppable apart from giving the NSA another trillion dollars). Also i think i would prefer the Chinese having all my data than the US, because china is a lot less likely to use it against me (not hand it over to the mpaa to sue me or something). Of course if i was a billion dollar defence contractor working on top secret weapon designs for the US, or a Chinese citizen, i might have a different view point.
Anyone remotely interested in a tablet with the funds to buy one, probably already has one (ipad or nexus7 or something). So the question isn't which one would you buy, It's would you upgrade to a windows tablet, sell/giveaway your ipad or whatever, buy a bunch of new apps, figure out a new system, and be able to explain your purchase to your friends and coworkers that all bought xtablet for xreason, all while it's not even able to do what windows is famous for? For the people that don't have tablets they are just as hard to satisfy (otherwise one of the thousands of models out there would of made it into their hands). That is why the surface is netbook/tablet hybrid and it's got every port under the sun, and why only the surface pro versions have any sales.
I use windows 7 because i like it... (ducks to avoid thrown wireless keyboard)... It runs all my programs and games (even pirated copies) and all kinds of obscure shit that comes in real handy, doesn't really look that bad, gives you almost all of the control you want, so many very handy shortcuts. I also have linux mint on here which isn't half bad, but i wouldn't say that it's better than windows, i can't stand OSX, and i thought chrome OS was a Google April fools joke.
"It can't be that people are finally paying attention, and ignoring fluff. So what gives?"
Easy. Apple has captured all the not-so-l33t customers and grandparents/mother types, while android collects most of the sheep, so the remaining customers are quite hard to satisfy. Those customers that are left, aren't stupid enough to buy a windows computer that can't run all the x86 programs they usually have? Microsoft on the other hand have to be idiots for not seeing that coming. (note not all customers for the various platfroms fall into the categories specified, but the categories mentioned ussually fall into the specified platform)
This is why i want a little flexible phone i can wrap around my wrist like a watch. I don't want it to have sixteen cores or play bf3. I want it to make phone calls, text, email, maps, music, video, and not have to bother about carrying another thing around in my pocket.
Care to explain why my comment was so bad. Or do you not know what your talking about? I'm no pro photographer, but i've been using film cameras since i was 6.
it's got pretty damn good optics from ziess as well it's not optical zoom but it's damn good glass. I've seen plenty of images from the 808 pure view and they kick serious ass (show me a better smartphone cammera if you disagree).
More megapixels means you can take the picture now and zoom in latter, it also allows for much better touching up because you can access pixels that just aren’t there in other phones, as well as good low light performance like you mentioned. Due to the optical image stabilization, time to lock and focus is not as much of a deal breaker because it takes out all the little movements that happen in that time. Images will look noticeably better with this camera, and 6 times optical zoom means you can make photos look even better (for a face you want to stand back and use all your zoom because it minimizes feature, for a car or something you want to get nice a close shot with no zoom, because it accentuates the features) and all kind of manual options for cool exposer shots and what not. If your not in to photography and just want to take self shots of your self with beer in your hand you probably wont care, but if you like your dslr but hate dragging it around this will make a very nice fit.
Maybe if the NSA can secretly record information on billions of people, then rigging a yougov poll would be child's play. 4chan does it about once a month, like how they got kim jong un times people's choice award of 2012.
"Would the Bonobos be able to determine that another intelligent species came before them?"/"Suppose there was an intelligent species on Earth before us. Where could we look for evidence?".
Yet sad that we don't have any genetic mutation techniques to fix it. That said, the way this guy is going i wouldn't be surprised if he cures it as well.
They are both games you are correct there, however one costs a few thousand to make and another costs millions. Which is why you get a cost difference at the point of sale. If you want to get the battlefield 3 type guys (and there is a lot of them) your not going to win them over with 16 colors, and if you somehow did get the same same quality of games on ios they aren't going to cost 2.99 any more. it's like comparing apples with oranges then saying "they are both fruit, and oranges make terrible apples, so apples are going to win".
yeah submitter is an idiot. Do you want to know why console sales dropped 20% last year? Its because everyone knew a new one was coming out this year genius. Also he reckons ios is a direct competitor because they got xcom a turn based video game? HAHAHAHAHAHA.
So you wouldn't mind me telling everyone how to get into your house without being noticed, because I'm just exercising my freedom of speech. The 3d printed gun doesn't have to be used for crime, but a zero day exploits is really only useful for one thing. I guarantee this google researcher was told to release it to the public not MS, so they could make them look worse (not that they need any help).
Sales fiqures arn't the best way to guage a products worthyness. Microsoft could of come out with the absoulte best OS possible for phones (i don't know what that is, but lets just say they did it) and it's not like everyone is going to drop their apple and android devices and jump over. There is so much fanboiness around at the moment, a windows phone could be able to teleport people any where they want, and you would still have people telling you the static list of apps on an iphone is better.
Apple is not the number one laptop vender. Lenovo is at the moment, and i'm pretty sure del and hp still make more than apple any way. As much as you see macbooks on all the tv shows, movies and coffee shops it dosn't mean wide spread appeal.
To be fair when ever some one makes a complaint against the police, the police ussally follow it with a resisting arrest or assulting a police officer charge. It confuses the system enough that the police officer will always get let off.

oops i read that wrong about the zoom, which is a quite a pitty. Still it seems to do a pretty damn good job to me http://press.nokia.com/wp-content/uploads/mediaplugin/photo/nokia-lumia-1020-pro-highres-4.jpg i don't see much blur at all on the part of the photo in focus.

yeah, fair point.
You might get the same ios number as the latest phone, but it's hardly the same ios, it'll be lacking half of the good new features.

Comparing angry birds to battlefield 3 is just a little bit stupid.
