Actually most current monolithic kernels are multithreaded, so they can have one thread working on reading that CD, while another threads handles user input, etc. The only difference from microkernels is that it's all in a single address space.
I believe that the two drops and spikes correspond to a new version of Windows being release. Prior to release, people will stop buying the old version, which would be seen as a drop in profits. After the release, a lot of people will upgrade, which accounts for the spike in profits. The second spike (2009) is bigger than the first (2006) because Windows Vista wasn't as successful as Windows 7.
There are quite a lot of engines which are PC and Xbox only because they only have a DirectX renderer and don't have the time or experience to make one for the PS3 (Source engine). I don't know any exact numbers, but that could explain the results.

Probably because they lose money on each PS3 sold, hoping to catch up with game sales. So people who use their console for something other than games cause them to lose money.
Of course we make up for that by building overly complex multi-language systems that somehow manage to make the build process actually take a long time through all the ancillary activities surrounding the actual chunks of compilation.
The only problem with defaulting your loan is that you'll have a hard time finding people willing to lend you money in the future.

Actually VB.Net is quite different from VB6/VBA/VBS. It's basically C# with a VB-like syntax.
