  1. Re:Not on the disc on Anger With Game Content Lock Spurs Reaction From Studio Head Curt Shilling · · Score: 1

One slight difference I see between the sale of used games and your examples is that a used video game (especially in license form) is in the exact same quality no matter how long time has been and how many hands it goes through. A car that you've driven for a while has degraded in quality and possibly taken X amount of wear and damage. I know discs can wear out, but it's only the vehicle by which the actual product is conveyed. A Steam game is a pretty clear example of this, I think. Not that it justifies what game companies want, but...it's not EXACTLY the same kind of situation here.

  2. Very confused on Black Duck Eggs and Other Secrets of Chinese Hacks · · Score: 2, Funny

I RTFA'ed and couldn't wrap my head around the first paragraph. My mom puts black duck eggs into the porridge she makes every other week or so. I wonder if that means I need to check around the house for dead drops or start questioning visitors about their national allegiances.

If you're surprised at this. Did any of us really think that Sony would a) roll over and cough up refunds for anyone who sued over the removal of "Install Other OS" or b) reinstate the feature? Corporations. Assume the worst, and you're usually right.

  4. Another question on Wikileaks Releases Video of Journalist Killings · · Score: 1

Why, as some have suggested, would the Apache crew have any reason to be so "on edge" that it was a mistake of nerves? I couldn't handle watching much past the first round of firing, but from what I saw the bullets took a hell of a lot of time to reach the people, meaning the helicopter was a hell of a distance away. The two guys are sitting in a titanium armored death machine that fires giant bullets, and they're twitchy? The gunner and his pal are definitely bad material to be Apache pilots. The more dangerous the weapon in your hand, the cooler and calmer the person needs to be to avoid horrifying things like this (see: Nuclear missile silo personnel).

  5. If you're surprised about this... on Israeli Border Police Shoot US Student's Laptop · · Score: 1

You're an idiot. Israelis have pretty damn good reason to be really, really fucking serious about their border security. Guess what happens when a 21-year-old college student with an attitude problem and slightly questionable possessions tries to enter? Watch the vid of her interview about the incident: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihXtbB-4GWw The part that jumped out at me was when she mentioned that she was "kind of smirking" while unable to answer some of the questions. Because that's what security people like: smartasses. Hell, this girl should feel lucky that her macbook was the only thing damaged.
