Getting you MBA (or learning about business stuff in general) is only useful insofar as it lets you get what you want once you know how to ask for it.
    Observe:
Linux is free = Linux is available at no cost
I'll just hack Apache = I'll leverage prior efforts and decrease our time to market.
Kiss my ass = I think you should reprioritize my primary action items.

etc. If you know how they talk, you can understand how they think, and use thta to your advantage. But beware the dark side. Pretty soon you might say something like "I believe this solution will allow us to leverage our synergies across markets!" ...and actually mean it.

I would suggest sharepoint also. I was faciing the exact same problem at my company and we decided on sharepoint. It allows check-in check-out of office docs, version control, etc.
It has a nice customizable web interface, you can do full-text searches of all the docs. It's pretty idiot proof from the user perspective.

it does require Windows2000/IIS. If you were a full blown MS-shop (It doesn't sound like you are) it integrates REALLY nicely with active directory and Exchange (it uses the exchange web storage thing as a filesystem).
You can DL a demo copy from Microsoft

Just because it's not Microsoft, doesn't mean it doesn't suck.

Maybe depreication isn't the term... (IANAAccountant), but I know the buisiness types think this is the coolest thing since sliced bread because it makes software expenditures easier to track and (depending on the type of agreement you sign with MS) you can do cool things, like get a fixed price per user for all of your (MS) software expenditures. This makes it easier to charge back a business unit for the IT services they consume.

Then again, WTF do I know, I'm just a techie.

This isn't a bad thing for alot of enterprise customers because of the crazy tricks accountants pull. IIRC purchased software is an asset that must be depreciated over time. Under this new scheme, the bean-counters will be more easily able to fiddle with the books. It's kind of the same argument for leasing PCs instead of purchasing them outright.

Any talk of this being unethical, immoral, etc. is pure nonsense.
No genes were modified in any way. They replaced defective mitochondrial DNA with functional mitochondrial DNA from another person. It's still 100% pure, natural, human, mitochondrial DNA. (just like mom used to make :)

This has no more effect on species diversity than using the services of a surrogate(sp?) mother.

Thse kids' Mitochondria will be exactly the same as that of the donor's own natural children.

You seem to be (correct me if I'm wrong)interested in establishing human habitat under the ocean?

From the standpoint of pure science, and maybe from the standpoint of coping with an overpopulated planet, this is a good idea.

I am more interested in making sure humanity could survive a catastrophe on Earth. I am talking LONG TERM stuff here. Sooner or later, Earth will be unable to suport life (meteor impact, nuclear war, tidal friction, alien invasion, global warming, etc). I think our best bet it to have multiple, redundant, independant replicas of human culture, civilization, and genome, in as many different locations as is possible. A full blown Mars colony would give us that.
Or maybe I'm just paranoid :-)

There are far better reasons for space exploration than the search for ET.

We need to get a permanant, self-sustaining colony established *off* this planet. The Earth will not support human civilization forever.

Is it worth the money to explore Pluto to further the ends of pure science? Yes. But, considering NASA's budget contraints, what little money is available would be put to better use on getting people to mars.

Whether it be via plague, cosmic collistion, or our own stupidity, sooner or later, Earth's biosphere *will* collapse. The only question is whether the end of the world will also mean the end of humanity.

Even if your internship is 90% bullshit (Basic MIS stuff, PC hardware...etc.) and 10% programming, you will get SOME real world experience, which is all you should need for an entry-level gig.

My advice would be go to back to school as soon as you possibly can. Once you get used to having a nice paycheck, it gets very, very difficult to go back to being a poor college student.
