  2. You have 2 options... on Ask Slashdot: How Do You Deal With Programmers Who Have Not Stayed Current? · · Score: 1

..either you take care if his coding and help him or her, or you leave for a new job...
I personally chose to help and correct the code of a co-worker for almost five years, only to get more and more frustrated. In the end, it was too much to take, as he didn't even care. He had given up learning and caring for his job, but he tried to push me around because he was older... of cause this depends more on personalities than coding, but my advice is to tread carefully. At the end, being right can be patronising and putting the co-worker on the defensive. After all, he might be aware of his short-comings and start playing the politics card... and then it becomes ugly!

  3. Sweets! on How Do You Get Users To Read Error Messages? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I've found, that promising sweets, say a tiny pack of gummibears, for any new error, that has not been seen before motivated everyone.
Simply ask them to make screenshots to prove that it is a new error and you are of.

Think about it. Finding Bugs this way makes fun and is totally worth the packet of sweets.
    This really works!

Maybe that's why they do support Amiga...

Having TAO as their base OS/GUI extension would make it more feasible porting the Metacreation tools to more than just Linux...

Hey, maybe that was their plan all along...

Oh and before you flame me... Somebody was bound to mention the Amiga again... sorry ;)

  6. New Amiga, why bother? on New AmigaOS On Top Of Linux · · Score: 1

    Well, because...

Everytime the Amiga is mentioned on Slashdot a LOT of people get into an argument...
It's the old holy war... and we all loved it...

It just shows how much the Amiga ment (and means) to so many people.

For people who loved the hardware, they went on to newer and faster machines. It is easy for them to disregard the 'Old' Amiga Comunity, but if you ever used the OS, it's a different story... One never forgets...

I don't use an Amiga... I used to, but now I have Macs and Windows and a Linux machine...

Yet I have been looking for something, ever since I gave up the Amiga...

I am not sure exactly what it is... Might be just the good old days... but I am not satisfied with anything out there...

I think we can all agree that whatever system you use, you can all think of 10 things to improve...

Well... Maybe this new Amiga SW-OS is a step in the right direction... mabe it is not...

I learned 'computing' on an Amiga... I know have a business - writing software...

So here is my interest in the Amiga Os:

    - I need write once run anywhere
(Java is almost there, but not realy)
    - I need scalabilty
(Linux is almost there, but too complex)
    - I need a single platform
    (Yeah, Tao\Amiga sounds about right)
    - I need simple API's
    (Will see)

And I am not just looking at the new Amiga OS...
I am also hoping for MacOSX for Intel... yes I know, dream on...

Let's give this a chance, shall we...
and judge it when we see it...

Everything works until proven not to...

    Go for it Amiga Comunity...

We need innovation and better solutions...

I have always been ready to return...
and suspect many people out there are willing to as well...

just look at the comments and you'll see that I am right... there is still fire...
