Thats easy to say, but if the employment laws say that they can pay you only when your called then your screwed. Unless your contract says otherwise they can probably do what they want. And if it's anything like where I work, union is a dirty word.

The whole idea of this patent is Amazinly Stupid. Not only has this idea been around for years but it's been implimented so many times that they will never be able to legitimatly say that people are using technology they developed.
I think the key to a cyborg is that is concious interaction with technology. Something like an arm that you can move because you want too. Not like a heart that just beats because it's got battery life.
Removing the software is harder than installing it. What are all thoses 30+ aged people going to do when they find out they can't get there porn when they want it?
Slashdot ads tend to be things I'm interested in. I actually follow a fair number of them to see the products. But thats because they have a fairly specific audience here. No one here is interested in kitchen apliances.(unless there really cool ones.) For the most part we have geek news and geek adds. If you hit CNN you end up with such a broad audience that it's almost like watching TV. You never know what your going to see an ad for.
Also there is also there is the bussiness aspect of things. Accountant aren't going to use a propriatry tax computer and a propatariy spread sheet computer... And form the look at all the bizzare Linux ports (ie. Dreamcast) we will always have an OS that we can use...
And I think DVDs proved that copy protection isn't going to amount to squat in the long run.

we are losing sight of the real reason we have a computer on our desktops - to perform productive work for our bosses.
I think you are losing sight of why most people got into computers... I don't overclock my machine so my boss can benifit from it. I do it cause I want that little bit of extra power for me... My games, my apps. If my boss want better proformance out of my machine at work he can buy me somethign better than the P2 400 I'm running.

Well ideally it would only destroy the internals. I've thought about doing this on servers that would hold highly sensitive information. If anybody tampers with them you melt the insides to keep others from getting at it. It would be great if some authority came and claimed you computer was evidence. It has also been sugested that I have to much time to think about this sort of thing.
I think this will be the first time that microsoft has payed any attentions to it users, maybe something that will actually help people instead of more buggy features...... Nahhh, gotta be mind control..... MG
I'll have to take your word for as I've never touched a dreamcast.

You make the petition and I'll put my name on it... I'd do it my self, but I'm just too damn lazy. MG

Well there are laws to deal with those things. The information that was being shared wasn't restricted by copy rights. MG
The problem lies in when you feel like chatting but you have a deadline.....
