No one said you couldn't have freedom of speech, they just said you can't do it anonymously (which I don't like either).
But I got a class in Danvers (to the north about 30 min) from 7pm to 10pm. Maybe I'll skip it and come see you guys.
The class is COMP101 and last week we covered what part of the sentence is the verb and the subject. Due to me attending high school prior to college and a slight understanding of the english language, I was ready to chew my hand off my wrist. So I doubt I'll miss much (Isn't justifying great).
Being of Pagan/Wiccan ideals, I'd have to say that mystic beliefs and success in any field are tied together. For those that believe in the impossible, everyday work and system design become an unworthy task.
I also like the thought that what I create serves a greater purpose than just my need to do it, or whoever I do it for. If hackers were judged on the way they think/act compared to the way their own systems/code, I think we would see a lot of hypocrisy.
Also, it would seem that those hackers who create works that are the best (or sometimes more) that they have to offer seem to have strong believe in themselves, their reputation, their name, and their beliefs a.k.a. religion.
By defining myself as a mystic it might lead people to think I use magic (which I believe in/practice) for my code. I don't need magic for my code to be good, it often comes in 'frenzies at 3am, last I looked at the clock it was 11pm and I have a working system/code' scenes that redefines how I code from then on....
I'd suggest teaching them little tricks on unix....
I grew up on a dos/win3.1/win95 box and I when I started trying to get jobs, I realised what I had known was just the crap microsoft wants you to learn and NOT real solutions.
My brother (14 years old) is going to be taking a C/C++ course ( he skipped ahead a year to do it), and I'm going to be setting him up with linux, gcc, etc. NOT VC++, because it is a "microsoft tainted" language, like MS Java (err... J++).
I think they best thing to do would to teach them to start with a problem, help them pick a unix based language and help them solve it. Then move onto the next project and pick a different langauge if neccessary. They will soon be telling you which langauge they prefer!

Although I'm just out of highschool and am going off to a community college in hopes of transferring somewhere else. I think the biggest problems are software that is not rubust. If you program can't handle a certain input, create a friendly message saying this doesn't work yet, not leave it wide open and undocumented. I've had the pleasure of working with a company who supposedly knows how to code and has "nt" engineers. But I keep hitting problems because I go into sections of the program that aren't done, but there is no warning, and it breaks because they were sloppy. PLEASE code well and make it worthwhile. OR don't code at all. There are enough half ass jobs being done already. -- MPCM
I work for a company that writes backup software. They were the writers of a popular backup/media management package, which does some serious backup. There are still quite a few number of large organazations using VMS/VAX with JukeBoxes. Names that come to mind is CitiBank, Bank of New York,.... Most places even forget (exepect one admin) that they are running VMS for backup because it never breaks. We also mess around with windows 95/98/NT/2K, Linux (slackware, Redhat), and Macs. Comparing VMS (or OpenVMS) is like comparing a bulldozer to a army. Both can destory things but the scope and process is extremely different! -- MPCM
I'm stilling looking for a company that produces something similar to acid boxes or selfcontained, powerful electro-pulse magnets that fit in a standard 5.25 or 3.5 drive. Maybe they'd have a turn key or two. I've searched for this stuff over a year ago, however being around 17, I didn't have the money to persue it, even if I did one. Any one make them now...? --
I have 4+ computers in my room, running a total of 7 different OS's. But when all is said and done, I'd rather sit on the couch and have a real manual.
I make notes in my books and highlight codes and techniques for later reference. I like being able to take some time away from computers to think about them, without being in front of them. But I also use computers 85% of my day, so.....
Even if there are only software based manuals, I still print them out. So quite a wait for my manuals to print (500+ pages) vs. paying for a hard copy included. I'll take the hardcopy any day!
Into: From what I've read, there seem to be glarring security issues in this system. What, if any, are ways to provent the abuse of this system? Q: How does W.A.V.E. plan to handle the hacking, cracking, social engineering, and general abuse of this system, especially with the suggested anominity?

Well, I skipped my class and came down for both lectures. Very nice.
Deffiniately better than finding the verb in a sentance (which happends to be 'finding' in this sentanct).
Again, very cool. --

How long do each of the shows run?
