Haven't you guys ever heard of the escrow services that ebay is now tied to ? It would help you avoid these big dollar scams. I've lost a total of $10 to bad traders over the years, because anything over $100 I use an escrow service for... Look into it if you value your money.

  6. surprised to hear of this just now.. on Ask Slashdot: Creating a "Personal" Linux Distribution? · · Score: 1
I'm surprised there isnt a how-to or something on this. I mean, all distro's can be install in a basic form, with bare minimums, but for years now I've been discussing with friends who have been fishing out the BARE minimum from the installs and repacking the systems to just install their own preferences. I've actually begun to do this with NT even. It now installs with a modified registry, no exchange or messaging or IE, and of course defaults to my own "theme". Since I have a cdr drive, i've also packed a copy of my pqmagic and other drivers that i know i'll need for my standard working environment onto the cd. Anyone know of any pages that have info on tweaking OS's in this nature, from the pre-install stage ?

well, first off on the volume thing, if the surface area of one of these is substantially larger than the surface area of a conventional speaker, wouldnt it add up to the same volume with less vibration ? or am i wrong. like 1000 smaller speakers on low volume adding up to one loud one ?

second. who's to say they'd put the speaker as the viewing surface for a tv or whatever ? seeing as it just cuts down weight and size, they could just make it the cover over the LED's for the tv, or the panel on the side... of course, they'd have done that with the opaque ones by now i'm sure.

then again... wouldnt that be trippy ? :) trails to the bass of a video ? add a little visual kick to the trex of jurrassic park.

why am i getting the feeling this is just another chance to roll a few punches to MS ? they arent the only ones who wanted this feature ya know. As a part time programmer, i could see how they would want it, and also as a consumer, i can see how it would be a huge pain in the a$$. and even if intel does make it user controllable, that just destroys and practical reason for it to even be there, so you know that wont happen. also, if they put it in and people write software to use it like they plan(ed), then that means amd and cyrix are effectively destroyed as competitors, and we all know uncle sam wont let that happen. I think the only way this would, or SHOULD come to be, is for identification purposes of the cpu, for warranty protection or something like that... oh, another swing of the door would be that if they put them in the cpu's, it would effectively destroy intel if people decide amd etc. have better products, and that would take any software locked to intel cpu serials out as well. business make stupid decisions, but i dont think they're gonna be this stupid. well, maybe not.

card slot fans. they push/pull air through card slots in the back/bottom of the case. someone figure out how to wrap peltier stuff around the opening of those, and control the moisture, then you've got a good effective cooling system pushing dry, cold air, into the entire system.
seems alot safer than putting condensation on my cpu and still alot more effective than just a normal fan. eh ?

  13. Uhhh... on Mega Heat Sinks · · Score: 1

well, when someone figures out that cold air is good and the moisture is the bad part, then we'll get somewhere. why not make peltier card slot fans ? i have fans in my servers that push/pull air thru the card slots. why not put this peltier stuff around the tunnels they use ? would make the machine blow dry cold air into the machine, more effectively cooling the entire system. eh ?
