And plastic straws were developed in response to the environmentalists who didn't want us killing trees to make paper straws. Just like plastic grocery bags - developed for the same reason. So - we do what environmentalists demand, and it turns out that the alternative is worse than the original problem.

Funny you should mention "eaten." Apparently a kid in my son's high school comp-sci class did just that.

I had totally forgotten about that. I had one of those as well - and the dump bed add-on trailer. That was a cool toy for its time.
