I agree, on a touchscreen it's actually really good. On the desktop not so much, but then again I don't really see it on the desktop anyway in fact there's very little need to use it at all outside of launching applications that aren't on the desktop or pinned to the taskbar and once you're using your applications (which is the point anyway) they aren't any different.

  3. Why do people always use the term 'extortion'? The fact is that it isn't extortion so referring to it as such just means you don't know what you're talking about and are exaggerating to further your point. Sure if you were to restrain yourself to using factual terms your post wouldn't be as dramatic but at least it would be taken seriously which is the first step in enacting change.

I have the same problem! I just don't understand it, even through various iterations of Android and custom firmware it's only slightly better yet still strangely slow and laggy.

Well, there's the issue of driver compatibility. For instance, does the touch screen work as expected? The stylus? Camera and mic? Could be really neat to run Plasma Active if all that works, then have it switch to the regular shell if you connect a keyboard.

That question depends on what you are installing, it's standard hardware so if there are drivers for it and the software you are installing is written to support it then it should work. You have that same issue of driver compatibility on every system.

If you're talking 3D graphics then yes, the GPU does most of the heavy lifting. Increasing the resolution increases the load on the GPU but doesn't really have much impact on the CPU since it really isn't doing things any differently (unless of course you are using different assets for different screen resolutions then it can start to have more of an impact).

Not sure of any smartphones with pressure sensitive screens outside resistive touch ones (which aren't common nowadays). There is a version of mypaint for Android, battery life on recent nexus devices is about the same as the N900 and as I mentioned it already runs Linux.

It's a gaming benchmark so it would include a significant portion of CPU as well. If you look at the benchmark program itself (if you don't have it you can see videos on youtube) it certainly has a heavy reliance on the CPU, cranking the resolution to push it beyond acceptable framerates would make it more GPU-bound but given that the tests in question appear to be done at even lower than native resolution (at 720p) the CPU is going to have a significant impact on the results.

I do that most of the time, the reason is it is consistent across systems and even fairly consistent across platforms. I don't have to concern myself with people's choice of where to place, arrange or organize files or icons because on Windows I can just hit the Windows key and start typing (works on the start menu pre-8 and the start screen in 8) or Command+Space on OSX and start typing.
