    Well that would explain it.

I made my decision a year or two ago.

The fact that VLC is an easy install on both Windows and OS X gives it a pretty big leg up.

What do i know though, I am pretty sure I am the only person on the planet that links Dragon Player.

Funny, I use VLC for the opposite.

I have found a lot of WMV files that look like blech on Mplayer, work great on VLC (may not be corruption though).

If I am not mistaken the only thing mplayer looks at in the header is the framerate, I am not sure of VLC though.

  8. Re:Too big to fail. on What an IBM-Sun Merger Might Mean For Java, MySQL, Developers · · Score: 1

I don't think IBM is too big to fail. Their failure would be bad, but nothing like some other (e.g. AIG).

I agree that too big to fail was a mistake, and am not defending that strategy, but what the large banks (and small ones too) do is provide the capitol to idea rich, but cash poor companies and people. This is a very important function, and the losses if a bank failed would permanently remove some of this capitol from circulation.

This will prevent new things from happening, and it isn't something that can easily be replicated. Enterprise class service is still an area with some competition.

Additionally look at the 2 stocks in comparison, AIG took a ride on the insane late 90's rise, it is not crashing down.

IBM has been a reasonable slow but steady company. Really how "too big to fail" banks were expected to be.

The make some great stuff, but decent has gotten good enough that the market for great is much smaller than it used to be.

They said "but it was worth so much", and I said "it may never have been worth that much"

It is funny looking at the two next to each-other since 1995, Sun took a ridiculous jump, IBM pretty much tracks with S&P and DOW, but slightly better.

I don't really object to a super low plan for less, but 40 GB is a low max. I've done that with legal content plenty of times. I can imagine getting there binging on youtube and hulu even.

This looks more like an attack on their competition (internet eating away at TV viewing), than a need to meet customer demands.

As someone who has used Crestron equipment (in a business setting), I can say the ability to use an iPhone as a remote at home would be great.

It has a great screen with touch capabilities, fairly long battery life, and stays with the owner. The App could sell for the price of the Crestron controller, and still be worth it, as I wouldn't want to carry and extra device around the house, or have remotes all over, but it would still be cool to be able to control audio room by room to suit my current location.

Now, I don't actually know what Crestron does for a home setting, so I could be way off, but it still would seam ridiculous to say people don't care if they need extra controllers vs something they already have.

I know that if I were choosing between 2 products, and one needed a dedicated controler, and the other used my G1 with an application, there would be very little decision making involved, as long as the one using the G1 was good enough, the great one with a dedicated controller would lose.
