They keep saying, "This will give NT the stability of UNIX." So, they admit UNIX is superior. Instead of buying a UNIX wannabe...why not just get the Real Thing(tm)?
Hrm...and did anyone else notice that Janus is just Anus with a J? heheh...how appropriate.
send up a ship with some powerful engines to drop a bunch of harpoons into the thing & tow it back to Earth? They could haul it to the space station & cut it up before bringing it down in pieces on the shuttle.;-P
Probably freak out aliens in a distant system though. "Hey, that comet was supposed to be back this year...."
Wow, maybe sometime soon I can get that extra penis I always wanted. You *know* that's what they were planning on doing. Some scientist said, "Hey, I bet I could grow a bigger dick!" He started with a finger just so everyone wouldn't laugh at him though. Way cool....
What about your collection of MP3's Rob? Doesn't that legally constitute as piracy?;-)
It kinda' irks me that most software can't be taken back to the place of purchase for a refund once it's been opened, so I copy stuff on occasion & try it out first. If I don't like it, I remove it, if I do like it, I buy it. I think it's fair to do that, after all, I wouldn't buy a car without test-driving it first. Buying cars would be quite an ordeal if you had to pay for them first & were required to return them to Detroit if you didn't like them.
Dude, I've had RH 6.0 installed for a few weeks now & E has crashed on me at least 25 times. I like the way it looks, but the code that shipped with 6.0 is apparently buggy. Same for GNOME, it's dumped core *almost* as many times as E.
They are both much prettier than KDE for sure, and I know they'll get more stable as time goes on. It's just a pain to have to wait.:-)
Anyway, Good luck to Raster, I'm sure he'll land on his feet.
I think it's time Rob invested in a H-A Linux server configuration with dual/redundant network connections through different providers. Oh yea, that would cost an assload of money....
Neat article in Discover Magazine about this either this month or last. It's online but I don't have an exact URL. Try to find it at http://www.discover.com Tres' cool.
It seems we're constantly caught in a the "Catch 22". PHB's won't turn to Linux until they see more support, and vendors won't support Linux until they see more users.
I know there are lots of vendors who *do* support Linux (24/7 phone support etc, and hardware manufacturers like Mylex etc.), but more are definately needed.
Of course, I guess what I just said is obvious, so nevermind.;-)

Why Kids Kill
·
· Score: 1
"These kids were the children of our society, we let them down and they bit the hand that should have fed and nurtured them - but failed to do so."
Everyone wants to place blame on someone else for the killings. Blame the parents, blame the media, the video game creators, the musicians, the Internet.
Bullshit.
I blame the other kids who tortured these two unstable children to the breaking point.
We (In the US anyway), have a tendency to alienate anything or anyone that we consider "different". As adults, if we were subjected to the treatment that these kids were, I'm sure many of us would crack under the strain fairly quickly. Let's not forget that this kind of thing happens to adults too. How many of you have made "postal worker" jokes in the past?
No one wants to blame themselves, and everyone rushes to tell the other children "It's not your fault, they were bad kids." Well, I think they should be told that If they were one of the kids that teased them or made fun of them, this is partly their fault. The other children contributed to it as much if not more than any other influence. You should be careful about how you handle another person's emotions, you have no idea what you're doing to them inside, or what they're capable of.
It's a terrible thing. I wish it hadn't happened. But it'll happen more frequently until we teach our young people how to be more tolerant of others. The only way we can do that is by setting a good example.
"the murdered should not be held unaccountable for being murdered, and the robbed are not completely blameless for being robbed. For it is the cornerstone of the temple that is no higher than the lowest stone in it's foundation."
Hahahahah....I couldn't agree more.:-) When all of us "Management Types" get together where I work, bonuses & pay scales are always a topic of conversation. "Woa...can you believe I get a 20% bonus for doing this job?" The dicksizing never stops.;-)
this would mean something. Personally, I'm tired of Doom & Quake (I&II), under Linux. I want a good flight sim or something. Unfortunately, I'm not a coder, so all I can do it bitch.;-) What good is a joystick driver without games to play with a joystick?
You know, I think what scares me most about this is that the punishment in the US for a computer crime is tougher than the punishment for lots of other crimes. Oh, say, domestic abuse or something like that. So, it's worse for someone to write a macro virus than to slap their wife or girlfriend around.(husband or boyfriend too just to be P.C.) There's something basically wrong with that.
I've had computer viruses. Monkey2 and Ripper to be specific. I remember how utterly frustrating they both were. I do think that there are things much worse however. Keep it in perspective is all I can say.
I dunno. I guess what it comes down to is that I think this says something about our misplaced & completely fucked up value system.
The Ultra Enterprise 10,000 system is also known as the "Starfire 10,000". We have at least 6 of them. (I know there are a few more in our Dallas data center, but I don't know how many.)
Rob & Co., Can we be expecting to see some photographs of the things you describe? How about some of the SlashDot booth etc? One of you geeks *must* have a digital camera?;-)
I just gotta' say for the record, I for one don't know who the hell John Katz is. I've seen that he's posted a few stories here on slashdot, but other than that, I'm clueless.
Rain? Hotmail runs on Sun Microsystems machines, running Solaris.

was when the guy says,
"Stop, we have you partially surrounded!"
And the brick falls out of Bender's ass. I rolled on the floor laughing.
Of course, like any PHB, I'm easily distracted by shiny objects....
