I know exactly what you mean! One of my "friends" also has a large collection of mpeg movies and halfway through he will pretty much always loose his.... I mean... Stop watching at least. Although in most cases that actually happens way before the half-movie mark.

Asking out of curiousity here - does any of you guys know what would happen if the mentioned human waste jettisoned into space was to hit another space shuttle. Would it break the shuttle or simply create an even spread across the windshield?

First of all, this is not USA-bashing. And I am making an overly broad generalization here as well, BUT.... No, of course we (in my case European) are not in the know of all the details you mention. What we tend to be aware of though, is the fact that we are dealing with a wide range of cultures and we therefore need to be aware of cultural differences. Most Americans (that I know) are a little hazy on anything non-American and therefore tend not to think of the differences.

And that's great you can do that - but don't expect the kernel hackers to give you something you can use straight out of the box - you muck around - you fix.

Do you also run around updating every other part of your distribution by yourself for new minor releases? I presume not, so why on earth would you want to do it with the kernel?

Why is it that so many people believe it is their RIGHT to be able to muck around with core of an OS, making changes left, right and centre when they probably wouldn't do it with the sources of XFree86, KDE and GNOME?

I mean, the kernel is complex piece of software - leave it to the distributor to come out with new releases - you won't gain that much from upgrading manually (obviously unless there is a new drivers you need, security fixes, etc).
